Pretty soon, the Buttercups made it to the Craft Center. They were all looking forward to getting started on artwork. But Ruby and Jade were more interested in impressing boys.

"I wish we could win a boy's heart," Ruby said.

"Me too," Jade agreed.

"Okay, Buttercups, now see what you're interested in, and get started on your creative artwork," Helen smiled.

The Buttercups went to see what artwork they were interested in. Meg and Peg decided to draw. Ruby and Jade didn't know what they wanted to do, and they saw that Sofia and Hugo were interested in working with clay.

"I bet that's how we can win a boy's heart: working with clay," Jade suggested.

"How do you know?" Ruby asked.

"Look at Sofia—she's good with clay, and Prince Hugo likes doing it with her," Jade told her.

"Sure, let's try it," Ruby agreed.

The two girls went up to the royals.

"Sofia, do you mind if we join you and Prince Hugo?" Jade asked.

"No, go ahead," Sofia smiled. "He's just about to show me how to work a potter's wheel."

"My brother taught me how to use this—it's tricky but fun," Hugo smiled.

Hugo showed Sofia how to work a potter's wheel, and Sofia was making progress.

"This is fun," Sofia smiled.

Ruby and Jade saw how impressed Hugo was with Sofia making something on the wheel. They thought if she could win Hugo's approval that way, they could do the same thing.

"I bet if Sofia can win Prince Hugo that way, we can win a boy's heart like that too," Jade surmised.

"Then we're in luck because there some boys over there," Ruby pointed out.

There were a group of village boys nearby.

"Let's get started," Ruby said.

Ruby and Jade each got a lump of clay and put the clay on a wheel. They started to work the wheels, but it wasn't as easy as Hugo and Sofia made it look. They turned to the royals, who were doing a great job.

"Whoa, this is tricky," Ruby said.

"You're doing great, Sofia," Hugo said. "Your just need to keep your hands steady." As he made a vase, the moving clay started to tickle his hands.

"It tickles," giggled Hugo.

Ruby and Jade didn't know how Sofia made it so easy to not only work the wheel but also win a boy's heart. They were so busy eyeballing Sofia that they weren't paying attention to what they were doing. Their clay got so wobbly that it splattered everywhere. Ruby's and Jade's faces were completely covered in clay along with their smocks and hands. Seeing the calamity, everyone laughed at Ruby and Jade—but not Sofia and Hugo. They themselves got clay on their faces and clothes from the explosion, but they felt concerned for Jade and Ruby.

"Are you okay?" Sofia asked. "What happened?"

"Oh, we just lost control of our clay," Jade said, feeling humiliated.

"Oh, dear," Helen frowned. "Let's get you cleaned up."

Sofia and Hugo were done with their pottery, so they decided to leave their vases aside to dry out, and they went to wash their hands and faces.
