Meanwhile, Ruby and Jade were sitting down, feeling embarrassed and miserable. They couldn't believe they had fools of themselves and failed to win over boys.

"Sofia sure has changed," Jade muttered. "It wasn't this easy for her to steal a boy's heart before."

Ruby turned to Sofia and saw her pretty pink amulet. "Maybe Sofia won over Prince Hugo because of her pretty amulet," she surmised.

Jade looked over at Sofia. "You're right, Ruby," she agreed. "Let's make some jewelry of our own."

Ruby and Jade went to go and make some jewelry to wear. Ruby decided to use a star-shaped red-orange rhinestone for her pendant. Jade decided to use a green rhinestone that was in the shape of a shamrock for her pendant. Ruby put red and orange beads on her necklace, and Jade used blue and green beads for hers. The girls were confident that they would attract boys with these necklaces.

Once the necklaces were done, Ruby and Jade wore them proudly.

"Wow, Ruby, Jade, your necklaces look great," Meg said.

"Thank you," Jade grinned. She turned to Ruby and whispered, "Here come some boys, Ruby! They'll love these."

Two boys walked by Ruby and Jade, and their necklaces seemed to catch the boys' eyes.

"Nice jewelry," the boy in red declared. "Did you make those?"

"We sure did," Ruby grinned.

Suddenly, the group heard Sofia and Hugo laughing together.

"Isn't that Princess Sofia?" the boy in brown asked.

"Yeah, and she's with Prince Hugo of Albuquerque," Peg replied.

"Wow, that prince is pretty lucky to be with that girl," the boy in brown remarked.

Ruby's and Jade's smiles dropped. The boys seemed more interested in Sofia and Hugo's friendship than them.

"Sofia, ever heard of this?" Hugo asked. "Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Catch a tiger by its toe. If it hollers, let go of the toe before the tiger kills you."

Sofia started laughing. The two village boys liked the sound of Sofia's giggle, which seemed to be contagious.

"Where does she get that laugh?" the boy in red asked.

"Hey, Hugo, listen to this," Sofia said. "When you read a book, don't skip the even numbered pages and say that the book is really odd."

Hugo laughed at Sofia's joke. Pretty much everyone heard that joke and started laughing along. Ruby and Jade couldn't believe that so many people liked Sofia's sense of humor—especially boys. They thought if they told jokes, then boys would think they were funny.

"Hey, we know a joke," Ruby said. "Jade, the early bird gets the worm."

"That's okay—I don't want the worm anyway," Jade replied. She and Ruby started laughing at their own joke.

But the boys just stood there, staring with confused faces. They didn't really understand why the joke was funny.

"I don't get it," the boy in red frowned.

Ruby and Jade were embarrassed that the boys didn't understand their joke. They had to think of something fast, but all they could say was...

"Me neither," Jade said.

"I don't either," Ruby joined her.

Ruby and Jade walked away, ashamed that they just embarrassed themselves—again.
