"Will, Laura, come on down for dinner."Before their lips touch, they are jolted and brought back from love land by the sound of Laura's mother's voice. They look at each other embarrassed with blushing and chuckles.
"Coming mum......." Laura screams "Hubby, lets go to dinner."

They both go downstairs to the dining, where they are met by the sweet aroma of freshly well cooked Nigerian jollof rice, fried and spiced beef and lots and lots of fish. Neatly chopped cabbage, with cucumbers and a jar of mayonnaise also are beside the main course. Fresh apples sit gracefully in the middle of the table in a tray. Two big jugs rest by its side, one holding homemade orange juice, and the other, water.
"Come and seat you two and stop staring." Laura's mum says, finally breaking them from their engrossment.
"Let us pray." Mother says calling the attention of all four kids present.
"Mum?"
"Honey, what's up?" Mother replies her youngest child and only son, Tyler.
"I want Uncle Will to pray. Uncle Will please can you lead the prayer? Please start the way you did at fellowship last time."
"Okay bro. I will do so only if you stop calling me uncle. It makes me feel old. Call me Brother, okay?" Will demands.
"Of course i will, Bro."
"Now that's the spirit." He extends his hands motioning for the others at the table to hold hands for prayers.
"Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, i adore You and i bless You and by Your Holy cross with which You have redeemed the world, i adore You. I thank you Lord for this food you have provided for us from Your bounty. Please Lord, bless us all with more and sanctify this food and provide for the families and people who don't have. Thank You Lord, for in Jesus name we have prayed."
"Amen" they all chorus in the room, as everyone begins to help him or herself to almost everything available on the table.
"This is really delicious, Mother. How did you prepare it all." Will says whilst giving Laura a mocking look.
"What you really mean is that i can't cook well enough, right?"
"Of course, you can't. Even Will cooks better" Tanya, the eldest of Mother's children taunts Laura.
"Really! You all are mocking me now. Even you Will."
He moves close to her, wrapping his hands around her shoulders. He places a soft kiss on her forehead, "You are my star, my love. You know we all are joking and what if you are still learning to cook? That's nothing. We will be together forever and forever is enough time to become the best in the world. So don't care what we say. Just do something to put us all to shame."
"Hmmmmm! That's so lovely. But remember............" Mother exclaims and is cut short.
"We know Mum, we remember. No sex before we get married. We won't dent our family names." Laura says mimicking how Mother usually says it, cutting her short.
"Yeah! Yeah! That's alright. So Will, how were you able to pacify your princess." Mother asks.
"Its the magic of our love. Guess she simply decided to forgive me. Almost knelt down and i remember her telling me that with the face i made, i could probably get whatever i want, from whoever."
"Hmmmm that's sweet. I just really hope you both stay together till marriage." Mother says.
"Now i can talk. Y'all have been talking while eating. Really bad manners." Tyler who had been the most quiet of the gathering, finally says.
"Where in the whole of Abuja, Nigeria will you find even a single soul who obeys the rule of table manners." Tanya opines. "Do not talk while eating. Do not talk with your mouth full." she mimics the teachers at nursery schools, "Never, those things don't work anymore. Its all dead Tye, its all dead."
"Alright Big Sis, if you say so. Hey Bro, have you heard of Lu's aspiration of becoming a feminist, here in bloody Nigeria?"
"What the....!" She gasps. "You demon, i was supposed to surprise him with that news later today." She stands up from her seat, moving to an angle where everyone in the room would be able to see her well, she opens her arms wide like from the scene in the movie, 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and then she smiles. "Okay, I'm now in the open, thanks to you Tye," She says, pointing to her younger brother who simply smirks, "I want to run active feminism starting from my third year in college."
Gaping mouths meet her confession. "Are you really sure about going into active feminism?" Mother asks visibly worried.
"Yes mum, i seriously am." She looks at Will, scanning the concerned look on his face. "Will, why you looking like that? What do you have to say, my love?"
After a series of deep breathes, "My love, are you really sure of this? This is Nigeria. By being a feminist, you'll always be in the public eye. This ruined country is run by men, men and men. Please i beg you in God's name to sit and think very much well before you decide." He says with a voice laden with so much love and care.
She moves to where he is seated at the table and sits on his lap, placing her arm on his shoulder. "I love you my dear, and I've thought of this, time and time again and I'm dead sure that I'm ready for this. Don't worry, I'll be loyal to you my future husband, I'll bear your surname and I'll respect you completely. My type of feminism is that which I'll fight for women's place in the society to be really recognized."
"That's alright my dear, you have my consent." Will announces.
"Thanks dear, you're the best. Mum? Sis? Bro? Say something, anything." she pleads.
"My dear daughter, my only advice is that you stand by your promise to be loyal and down to earth to your husband. I give my consent and pray you succeed in it." Mother simply answers.
"Yea Sis, i do too." Tanya says and Tyler also agrees.
"Thanks to you all, i really appreciate it and pray to uphold my promise."
"That aside, Tye, clean the table up. Will how's mum and dad?" Mother asks.
"They both are doing well. They sent their greetings and they think I'll sleep over tonight since its our anniversary"
"That's good, I'll call them later. I know you won't sleep here tonight. You never do. You're afraid you both may have sex and break your promise?" Mother says, referring to them both.
"Yes mum, but i may likely sleep over tonight." He declares.
"Good luck with that. I'm going to bed now. Stay safe kids." Mother says as she retires to bed.
"I'm going to bed too. Goodnight y'all." Tanya also says, heading to her room. Tyler finishes his clean up assignment and goes to wash the dishes. He also would go to bed after he's done.
"Honey, can we head upstairs?" Laura asks.
