A few weeks later. . .
"Man, I'm gonna miss this place," I sighed, shutting the trunk of my mother's car. I turned around and leaned against it. Kayla on my left and April on my right, myself in the middle. They nodded in agreement.
We just took that time too look at our summer home away from home and reminisce. We've been coming here since we were just little girls, long before our siblings were born. Ah, the good old days.
It was located in a secluded area where our grandparents, the original Eternal Triangle, built.
Cool, is an understatement.
The house itself wasn't huge, but it wasnt small either. It was a two story Dutch Colonial house with white trim and cobblestone leading up to the front porch. On the porch was a porch swing and a few plants. There was a pool around back and a pool house that we used for training. Next to the pool house was a garden where we grow our own food. We had some cattle on the land.
I guess it was more of a Ranch really, but not a huge one.
"Alright kiddos, you guys ready to go home?" Uncle Lesley questioned.
"As always, no. I don't like going back home, it means we have to go back to school, and school means homework, and homework means stress, and stress means pimples and I don't like pimples. I've been almost pimple free all summer and here comes school ready to give me what the doctor didn't order. " Kayla huffed after her long winded ramble, not even looking as if she need an oxygen refill.
"Awe, sweetie, don't be like that," her dad brought her into a side hug. She only went to just below his chest. Lesley was a tall guy standing at six-foot-three and Kayla was five-foot-two and hadn't grown since eighth grade. You could say she got the short end of the stick. . . Ha, puns. They're great things.
She hugged him back, but after a few short seconds he leaned back so he could look at her. "You're a doctor? Since when?" He joked.
She rolled her eyes."I don't know. I graduated high school when I was nine so I'd say since," she began calculating the years in her head.
"Two years ago. I've been a doctor for two years dad and you never knew, never once asked,
I'm disappointed."She was getting teary eyed and she shook her head, getting a little too immersed in the joke. "So,so disappointed," and with that she got in her dad's car and was ready to leave. Drama queen. The whole time April and I sat watching with amused eyes. I love how their relationship works it's quiet nice actually.
"What- what just happend?" Lesley asked with a puzzled expression, blinking in confusion, not ready for the joke to escalate so quickly.
April and I looked at one another then shrugged. We brought tears to our eyes then got ready to play along.
Three.
Two.
One.
"So, so disappointed." We shook our heads and made our way to our respective cars, slowly to help show how so 'disappointed' we are. It's fun how us girls have known eachother for so long, we literally have one brain. We think alike and looks can speak volumes.
I looked out of the passenger seat window to see if he was still there and he was. He was looking left to right, hopeing someone would appear out of thin air to tell him what had just happend, but no one ever did so he turned around and walked slowly to his car. I could see him muttering to himself and using hand gestures. Poor guy. I shook my head and chuckeld.
I just love my family. Even if we aren't related by much blood we still are family. We've grown together, fought together, endured family reunions together, and if we could do that and still live under the same roof together by our own free will, we are definitely family. Technically April was my cousin, but that's a story for another day.
"Alright baby girl, are you ready to go home?" My mom asked from beside me in the drivers seat. I looked at the small smile on her pale face.My brother and I are mixed. We're black and white. We look somewhat like our mother, but sadly we didn't inherit here beautiful green eyes and pointed noes, but got our dad's light honey brown eyes and beautiful curly hair. I know I said I hated it, but I'm not ungrateful, when it wants to be, my hair can be quite nice at times.
Our grandmother says that we're rainbow children, thanks to our native American ties. Its like we are everything under the sun. We aren't just those things, everyone has a little something different then just what they are in them, y'know?
Logan was in the back with his ipod plugged in listening to music, not paying a single sliver of attention to anything else. And Grayson, our Golden Retriever, was panting and looking out of the open window. Even he must miss this place already.
I sighed and pouted. "Ready as I'll ever be."
"Don't be like that JJ, schools great you'll get to see your friends and get to read more books. Come on get excited!" She moved her hands in an excited motion and I laughed at how she acted. She really acts like a teenage girl most of the time. That's why us girls confide in her the most out of the other adults. She understands us, but she's old enough to have had the experience and to give us advice about things.
She's learned to except that I'm a book nerd, and that Logan is not. That I am all around good at school and at paying attention, and that Logan is not. His only great subject is math and my only not so great subject is math.
"Yeah, okay," I said and moved my hands the same way. "Excited!" I laughed.
"That's the spirt! Now turn on some tunes and let's hit it."
------
I put my very last shirt back into my closet and shut the door, with a relieved sigh. "Now that that's done," I flopped on my bed on my stomach and groaned. I'm so tired I just wanna sleep. A little nap never killed nobody. . . At least I don't think it has.
In my mind I'm raising an imaginary glass, 'Here's to hoping,' I say.To answer your question, yes. That is how my brain works. I smile to myself. I'm so funny sometimes.Well I think so. That's what my mom says, I am my own biggest fan, so I don't know if I'm funny unless someone says so.
I began falling into a comfortable darkness when my stomach lets out the loudest noise I have ever known man to make.
I rose up quickly. "I want pizza, " I said to no one in particular.
I got out if bed and went down stairs. "Hey, mom, I really want pizza. Can we order some?" I walked into the kitchen to see her rummaging through the fridge. I could only see her back until she turned around. She had a piece of lunch meat hanging out of her mouth.I raised an amused eyebrow. She shrugged "I guess so," she took the piece of turkey out of her mouth and waved it around when she gestured to me. " If you'll order it I'll pay. How's that sound?" She then flipped it into her mouth. I was trying really hard not to laugh. So goofy. I love my mother.
"Fine with me. Is there anything specific you want?" I eyed the turkey she was munching on. "Anything with turkey? Ham?Or is pepperoni and sausage with olives okay with you?"
She raised a questioning eyebrow. "Since when do you put olives on your pizza? I thought you hated olives."
"No, Logan hates olives. I, for one, love them. And I have put them on my pizza ever since Kayla started putting them on hers." I said as I dialed Pizza Huts number.
"Oh, well you can put them on half the pizza, since Logan doesn't like olives, but I'll have to steal a slice."
I laughed. "Okay mom."
---------After the deliciously healthy meal of pizza and Soda and the dessert of four scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream. I felt very satisfied, happy, and bloated, the best combination in my opinion. I could do with out the bloated-ness, but hey, like I said I'm content.
I flopped on my bed once I was showered and clad in my night attire. I looked at my alarm clock and got depressed. After tomorrow I'll have to go back to the dreaded hell hole you may call school.
Yay.
The joy.
