After hours of dreadful classes it was finally recess. And to my dismay the guys around the table were debating... Or rather arguing over who was the strongest member in the Avengers.
And I don't have the slightest clue on how that topic even came up.
"Are you kidding me, Iron man could beat Captain America any day!" Kevin rebuked.
"Pft, oh please, all it would take is thieves to bring iron man down." Cameron replied.
"Hence the highly futuristic talking house." Kevin said.
"Wait, I don't think iron man's house talked?" I jabbed in.
And suddenly Brooklyn finally joined the conversation. "I like batman."
Everyone went silent and blankly stared at him. Our mouth ajar. Victoria came to Brooklyn's rescue. "Erm, batman isn't part of the avengers."
"Really? How about superman?" Brook asked.
"Not even slightly !!" Kevin yelled at him. Palming his own forehead. "Is there a second when you're actually sober." He sighed.
"I must've confused superman with The Incredibles." Brook said as he gulped down his cup of orange juice.
"Dude the Incredibles is from Pixar." Skylar squinted her eyes at him, shaking her head from side to side.
Before I could add into this fairly interesting conversation, someone tapped me on the shoulder. And judging by the prickliness of fingernails, it must've been...
"Hey boys. May I borrow Sel for a sec. Thanks." She chirped pulling me to a corner and not even acknowledging the other two girls at the table.
"So?" She stared at me.
"So?" I looked right back at her.
"Do we have a deal?" She questioned me.
"No." I said bluntly.
"What? Why? Don't you want to stay here with your friends?" She was surprised at my decline.
Inside of me, I wanted to stay here more than anything in the world. And I know that Taylor Bell's parents could be my ticket there since my parents and hers has been business partners for years. But if it meant betraying Victoria and disrupting something as simple as a high school crush... I just couldn't.
"I'm sorry, it's really a great offer. But, I'd never exchange Victoria's happiness for my own." I replied.
"Do you realise I'm offering you at tremendous offer."
"And do you realise that I would never betray my friends. I know what it feels like to be separated from the ones you love. If I know it feels bitter, why would I want it upon anyone else much less Victoria." I snapped at her. I could never overcome my conscious to accept the offer.
Taylor's expression went fierce. "I'm giving you one last chance." She stuck out her pedicured fingers at me. "Are you or are you not going to take my offer." Emphasising one last time.
"I need to go." I waved my hands at her and left. Heading back to the table, clearing my thoughts.
"So what did I miss." As I slipped into my seat.
"How does movie night in the Brooklyn mansion sound." Cameron smiled.
"Yeah to rewatch all the superhero movies from avengers to the justice league." Kevin grinned from ear to ear.
Brooklyn shrugged his shoulders. "Why not. It's not like I'm doing anything else that night. So what, movie night starts tomorrow at 7? Who are invited?"
Kevin hesitated a while. "How about just the basketball players and the cheerleaders? We did have a pretty good season this year." He suggested.
"Alright. You guys tweet that out, I have a date with the principal." Brooklyn picked up his things leaving the table.
"What did you do this time?" Victoria asked.
"I may or not have accidentally flipped a teacher off for taking my parking in school this morning."
"Wait, don't have teachers and students have different parkings?" Victoria questioned further.
"Honey, after awhile you'll learn to not ask and just go with the flow." Skylar stopped her and signalled her to finish her lunch.
Victoria stared at the back of Brooklyn as he left the cafeteria.
I looked down at my unfinished food, feeling a gut wrenching pain. How could I destroy something as pure as a high school crush. Not to mention if cheerleaders were invited.. It meant Taylor would be there.
This would be one heck of a night.
