I sighed as I stared at the school map clutched in my hands.
I. Can't. Read. Freakin. Maps.
After 10 minutes of looking at the map,(looking only)I finally made my way to the history classroom.
I checked my watch before stepping into the classroom, and damn, I was 20 minutes late.
20 minutes.
20.
20.
20!
On my first day of school.
I took a deep breath, and opened the door.
Inside, I was screaming my head off as everyone trained their eyes on me.
Outside, though, I walked confidently into the classroom, and stood next to the teacher.
She smiled warmly at me, which I returned back without hesitation.
"Sorry I'm late, I couldn't find my way through the school," I apologized, and she nodded.
I heard a few girls giggle, but I held my place.
"That's okay, considering you're new, but don't be late next time!" the teacher warned, and replied with a yes.
...
...
This awkward silence was driving me crazy.
What do I do? Do I go sit down?
"If you'd like to introduce yourself," she added, and I nodded.
Mentally, I was hitting myself for being so stupid. Of course. Introducing myself.
All the new student things.
"Hi, I'm Charlotte Cassidy and if you can't already tell, I'm a girl. "
Some people laughed, and I continued.
"I moved from somewhere really far, so I'm practically new to this town. Um, i hope we can be friends," I concluded, and everyone clapped.
The teacher instructed me to sit next to this girl who was looking out the window, and she didn't even seem to notice my presence as I sat down.
"Um, hi," I said, and she turned to look at me.
At first, there was a small frown displaying on her face, but then she smiled.
"Oh, hi there, sorry, I was kinda zoning out, you know, thinking about....well, never mind," she said, and I offered a smile.
"Hey, I'm Charlotte, Charlotte Cassidy," I said, holding out my hand.
The girl beamed at me, shaking it.
"I'm Nora Monaghan, nice to meet you," she said, continuing to shake my hand.
"Nice to meet you too, " I beamed, and that's when I realized we were the only ones talking.
I glanced around the classroom, to find everyone staring at us.
I blushed.
We were talking.
During class.
Nora didn't seem to mind, shrugged, and went back to work.
"Well, class, back to work, please. So, Amadeus Mozart..." the teacher stated, but I only heard part of what she said.
Oh, how glad I was to have a teacher start talking again.
Even if it was History, THE most boring lesson in the whole world.
I grinned to myself and started listening.
Maybe DH High wasn't bad at all.
Oh, how wrong I was.
