The alarm went off at 4 a.m., when they needed to wake up.
The couple went through their usual morning routine.
“Bye, Princess, do well today.” Val dropped Sharna off at her studio before driving a block farther to his.
James: Hey, Shar, hope you slept well last night. I apologise, I might be a little late to rehearsals today, Becky had a doctor's appointment. I'm very sorry. I'll be there ASAP.”
Sharna: James, take your time, no problem, family first.
She set her phone down after sending the text message and figured she had a bit of time to kill.
She did a bit of choreographing, but soon enough got really worked up and just sat on the floor.
She brought her knees to her chest, and laid her head down, hiding her face.
Tears slid down her cheeks. She was holding everything in since last night. She didn't want to overwhelm Val with her problems, he already had enough on his plate.
James opened the door ten minutes later.
He sat his stuff down quietly and walked over to the Australian pro dancer.
“Sharna, have you been crying?”
“Yeah, James, I have.” She looked up and ran a finger under her eyes.
“Shar, what's wrong?”
“It's just…” She stopped her sentence and sighed. “Nothing, it's nothing.”
“I'm not blind, Sharna, it has to be something.”
“James, it's nothing!” Sharna snapped.
They both stood in silence.
Sharna broke out in tears again.
James walked up and hugged her tight.
“I didn't mean to snap at you like that. I'm sorry.”
“No, Sharna, you're fine.”
She dried her eyes once again.
“Now, tell me what's really going on.”
“Well, Love, it...never mind, it is stupid.”
“Shar, nothing that bothers you so much that you cry is stupid.”
“I disappointed you. I disappointed Val. I disappointed Brian. I disappointed the other pros. I'm not good enough. For you. For this show. For Val. For anyone.”
“Sharna May Burgess! Who are you kidding? You're way more than enough for me. You're an amazing teacher, coach, and an amazing friend. Dancing With The Stars wouldn't be what it is without you. My niece tunes in every week, every season just to watch you dance. Val? Have you seen the way the man looks at you? He loves you to pieces. Don't ever say you're not good enough, because you are Miss. Sharna May, you are good enough.”
Everything was silent.
“Let's go, Babe, let's tango.”
She wouldn't move.
“Shar,” He chuckled. “You know it takes two to tango.”
He helped her up and they hit their frame.
~~~~~
“Hit that sharp!” Sharna corrected.
“Got it.” James responded.
“Good. Now after we hit here…” She hit the movement. “You go…” She showed another step. “Then you go to the lift and back down. All this movement is very sharp.”
James nodded. “Are you going to let me lift you this time?”
“Yes…” Her voice was shaky still.
And when it was time for the lift, she backed out in fear of injuring James.
