Once we were back at the house, Luda Mae made me help with breakfast since it was around 6:30 a.m. I was still in pain, but not enough pain to become immobile. I didn't want to, but she insisted that it was a "woman's job to take care of the men". Then she handed me a spatula and told me to get to work.

A pan full of scrambled eggs were made, along with sausage, toast, and bacon. I set the wooden dining room table and waited for the men to show up. I brought the toast and eggs out first and set it on the table. Monty and Hoyt came in from outside and sat down at the table. Thomas had went back down into the basement and had yet to be seen.

"Well looky here, Monty, we got ourselves a new maid!" Hoyt bursted out in laughter as he elbowed his uncle. I rolled my eyes as I set a plate down that was filled sausage. I placed it next to the eggs, then slammed my hands down onto the table.

"Hey Hoyt? Ya know what you can do with those dumbass remarks of yours? You can take them, and shove them up your a-" Hoyt cut me off by slapping me harshly across the face. I gasped as it began to sting. "Oh hell no. You'll pay for that, Hoyt." I warned as I held my stinging cheek. I stumbled back a few steps.

"Oh really? What's a woman gonna do 'bout it?" He chuckled. He leaned back in his chair, basking in what he thought was manliness.

"You'd be surprised." I muttered under my breath. I could feel another bruise forming, but this time on my face and in the shape of a handprint. Heavy footsteps coming up the basement stairs alerted us all of Thomas' presence. The metal door slammed loudly. As he walked into the dining room, Luda Mae had called me.

"Kay, be sure to make Thomas a plate!" She yelled from the other room. For an old lady who smokes a pack a day, she sure does have a set of lungs on her. With a sigh, I grabbed the ceramic plate that was in front of him and started to load it up. Eggs, bacon, sausage, and a piece of toast. I sat it down infront of him and he grunted. I guess that's his version of a "thank you". He began to feel around the table, looking for a fork. I guess while trying to plot an escape rute, I forgot to set them out.

"One second, I forgot to set out the silverware." I walked back into the kitchen and had Luda point out the drawer they keep the knives and forks in.

"Dumb bitch forgot to get the forks! Idiot." Hoyt sneered from the other room. Luda Mae smacked him upside the head as she walked by. "Hoyt, I know it's hard for you, but please, try to be civil with your new sister in law."

I dropped the forks as I heard her address me as his "sister in law". Who the hell was I marrying?! I was unaware of this agreement!

"Wait, hold the hell up. 'Sister in law'? I was unaware that I've agreed to marry someone!" I yelled as I collected the fallen utensils.

"Well, it's just a figure of speech. Ain't got no preachers or priests 'round here no more. But you're Tommy's girl, so we'll just consider y'all lawfully wed until we can get around to that preacher buisness." Luda explained. She sat down at the head of the table, between Thomas and Monty.

"Wait hold on I ain't no one's gir-" I tried to defend myself, but I had fallen over my own feet. How typical of me.

"Damnit woman, you're even klutzier than my dumbass brother. But hell, at least I ain't the one that's stuck sleeping with him." Hoyt snickered as I got back on my feet. I heard a thump and Hoyt gasp in pain. Thomas had harshly kicked him under the table.

"Hoyt quit tryin' to stir up trouble." Luda scolded

"Hoyt if you're gonna say another stupid remark that lowers the IQ of this entire room, ya better speak fast because Ima 'bout to stab ya in the throat with this knife." I threatened as I stood up straight, the fallen silverware in hand.
