Days went by faster than Bokuto had anticipated. He didn't even notice how quickly more than a week passed.
Akaashi turned out to be even nore perfect that he thought, he helped with strategizing and all of the generals seemed to like him. Konoha really liked Akaashi too, it was because of him that Bokuto became quiet and actually did his work.
Of course, Bokuto insisted that Akaashi should sleep in the castle as a royal guest, he wasn't going to let him sleep in some tiny room with an uncomfortable bed. He also made Akaashi eat with him, he showed him all around the castle.
Akaashi being curious, he went to see Bokuto's father who was locked away. He could see from who Bokuto picked up his anger issues.
During the upcoming days he and Akaashi got closer, they spent a lot of time together, Bokuto loved listening to his stories about other kingdoms, it felt like listening to fairytales. Even if Bokuto wasn't a big fan of such kingdoms as Haiba or Iwaizumi, listening to Akaashi's stories made him wanna go there and see everything for himself.
However, all things end and so did the Owl Festival.
It was early in the morning when one of the guards informed Bokuto that Akaashi had left the castle. His reason behind it was obvious, he's a traveller and it was time for him to go.
At first Bokuto didn't really react, after all he still had quite a few hours till the gates would start closing and Akaashi said it himself that he would wait till the last minute. Only thing, Bokuto forgot that they were closing the gates earlier this time, and before he knew it - it was about time to close the gates and secure the kingdom again.
Bokuto rushed out of the castle, the town was closing the festival and getting ready for the "quiet evening", which was a massive prayer for Bokuto's mother. All the shops that were selling different things ranging from weapons to jewellery had already closed.
The gates were about to close as well, so Bokuto had to hurry up. Good thing he wasn't wearing anything heavy.
He felt a tad relieved once he saw Akaashi heading out. He had his hood on again, but Bokuto was sure that he could recognize that posture from 10 kilometres away.
Akaashi was walking elegantly, he wasn't rushing or anything. The bag he was carrying seemed heavy, and his clothes covered his whole body from head to toes, apart from his long fingers that weren't covered with gloves.
"Akaashi!" He called him, his voice was loud enough and Akaashi stopped in his tracks.
He had already stepped out of Fukurodani grounds, and yet he turned around and waited till the King reached him. Seeing Bokuto rushing to him like this seemed surreal. A king of such a powerful kingdom was rushing towards a simple traveller.
"Stay" was the first thing Bokuto said once he reached him. He was panting and couldn't look up at first, but once he did Akaashi's green eyes pierced his heart again.
"Why?" Akaashi asked. He had a feeling Bokuto would ask him to stay, unfortunately, Akaashi's pride wasn't letting him stay on his own will.
"I don't know... I want you to stay.. I don't know how to describe this feeling, but I know that if you leave I'll hate myself for letting you escape my hands" Bokuto said as he took Akaashi's cold hands. His hands fit into Bokuto's perfectly.
"Ask yourself, would you be okay with having me by your side at all times? Would you risk your life for me?" Akaashi said and squeezed Bokuto's firm hands. They were trembling.
Bokuto closed his eyes and tried to imagine. Just the pure image of Akaashi by his side made him feel warmer. His heart was already doing backflips.
"I guess I would be okay with that" he said.
"Bokuto, does your heartbeat faster when I'm next to you?" Akaashi asked making Bokuto freeze in his place.
How did he know?
"It does beat faster and I have no clue why, but what I do know is that I cannot let you go. How could I make you stay?" Bokuto practically begged.
"Promise me you'll change. Promise me that you'll use the kindness of your heart to rule this kingdom. If you can promise me that, then I'll stay by your side forever" Akaashi said and smiled at the flustered King.
"I promise,if you promise to hold me by the hand and show me the right way" Bokuto said and waited for Akaashi's answer.
Akaashi sighed before smiling at Bokuto.
"I promise, my king"
