HARRY'S POV

(Hermione, Ron, and Harry just got letters).

"These are Hogwarts letters!" I point out before opening my letter.

"Why are we getting letters from Hogwarts?" Hermione wondered aloud. Her question is answered as we each read our letters.

Dear Mr. Potter,

Students that have just completed their seventh year are welcomed back to get their studies done properly, due to the interruptions of last year. You will need the same things you had last year. Be ready to have full classes, as your entire class will be joining the new seventh year class. Magic has allowed the classrooms to expand. We hope to see you soon.

I feel excited as I read the letter. Voldemort is gone for good. I can finally get at least one good year in at Hogwarts without disruption and danger.

"This is wonderful!" Hermione sums up. She probably is thinking about her NEWTS.

"You better go get packing, we need to make sure you all have everything you need!" Mrs. Weasely shoos us towards Ron's room. Hermione goes to Ginny's.

Time skip

We walk through Diagon Alley, checking our lists for everything we need. Hermione and I are checking our lists, and Ron is looking around, so we end up bumping into someone -- actually, multiple someone's.

We fall over, but they steady themselves on their feet. They help us up. They're a large group of nine, dressed in t-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes, and each has a bag of a different color.

"Sorry about that, we weren't paying attention," I apologize.

"It's okay, it happens," says the guy in front of me. He has black hair and sea green eyes (blue bag). The girl next to him has long blonde hair with gray eyes (white bag). On his other side is a scrawny Latino boy wearing suspenders and a tool belt (red fading into orange bag). He has brown hair and eyes. Beside the blonde girl is another girl, with short black hair and electric blue eyes (gray bag with electric blue lightning designs). Behind her is a guy with the same eyes, but blonde hair (gray and purple bag). Next to him is a brunette girl with a feather in her hair (dark pink bag). Then there's two identical looking boys, but one is an inch taller (orange bags). The final girl has braided hair and a scary look in her eyes (dark red bag).

"Who are you?" The blonde girl asks.

"I'm Harry, this is Hermione and Ron," I answer.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Annabeth, this is Percy, Thalia, Jason, Piper, Travis and Connor Stoll, Clarisse, and Leo." She frowns and turns to face her group. "Where's Nico? Hazel? Frank?"

Just then, a girl with curly brown hair and brown skin runs up to them (emerald green bag with black trim and letters). " Hey, Annabeth! Sorry, we got distracted," she says. Behind her is a muscley (is that a word?) guy with dark hair and Chinese features (dark purple bag).

"That's OK. Harry, this is Hazel and Frank," Annabeth smiles, but is still looking around. As Hazel shakes our hands formally, Annabeth's eyes land on something. She sighs and looks directly at the pet store. "Nico!" She calls.

A pale boy in the store turns around from looking at a black cat. He's dressed in all black: black shirt, black pants, black shoes (black bag). His shirt says "No." He walks over and stands beside Hazel. "Yes?" He questions.

"And this is Nico," Annabeth finally finishes introducing her friends. "Hazel, Frank, Nico, this is Harry, Hermione, and Ron."

"Hi," is all I say.

PERCY POV

"I've never seen you before, and your accent... American?" Hermione looks over them curiously.

"Yes, we're exchange students from America."

"Which school?"

"A private school in a small district in New York."

"I didn't know they had private wizardry schools." Hermione narrows her eye ever so slightly. I can tell she's slightly suspicious, but I know Annabeth. She'll have something ready to say. She's the one who mostly came up with our alliby.

"I don't know about here, but there are a few in America."Annabeth's eyes also narrow as they face each other. Annabeth looks like she's intensely observing Hermione, gathering as much info about her as she can. Hermione looks like she's a walking, talking lie detector, scanning for untruths.

"I've still never heard of one..."

"They're rare and considered unimportant, and are unlikely to be found in any of the many books you read." Annabeth's voice is final.

Hermione's eyes widen a little. "How do you know I read?"

"You're observant. You're carrying a few more books than these two," she nods to Harry and Ron, "and they don't look like school books. When you said you'd never heard of private schools, you said it twice, as if you not hearing of something like that is highly unlikely, meaning you've probably studied a lot, such as the names and the types of wizarding schools. To add onto that, I can see it in your eyes and posture. You look like you're smart and full of knowledge." She didn't sound or look accusing or all "ha I'm smart I figured all that out". She just looked and sounded observant, like she was stating a fact she'd discovered.

Even I was slightly surprised by this. I guess this is what goes through her head when she meets someone. I wonder if being a daughter of Athena means she can sense smart people. That'd be cool. She can tell me everyone I can copy homework from.... Nah, she wouldn't. She'd make me study. Darn.

But being a daughter of Athena does make her really smart, so she must've easily picked up on some traits about them. Well, mostly Hermione, since she did most of the talking.

"Harry and me are going to head towards --" Ron starts, but is cut off by two voices.

"Harry and I," Annabeth and Hermione both say at the same time.

To my surprise, they both started smiling. "I think we'll get along fine," Hermione says. Annabeth nods.

"I'm sure we will."

"Ugh, now there's two of them?" Ron, Leo, and Clarisse all groaned at the same time, causing us all to burst into laughter. Hermione and Annabeth rolled their eyes in unsion. OK, now it's just creepy.

We hung out with the golden trio as we bought everything we needed. We went to this pet shop called "Magical Menagerie". Annabeth found a gray owl, and liked it instantly. I wanted a pet, but Annabeth said no. I "have enough pets". I said there's no such thing.

Piper got brown speckled owl. No one else got pets. Either because they just didn't want one or didn't want to take care of one.

Well, Hazel said if she needed to pet a cat she had Frank, which made us laugh. The trio didn't hear, thankfully.

We were supposed to be American wizards, not demigods. We're going undercover for a little while before revealing ourselves. Hecate is blessing us to be able to use magic, at least while we're here. So we aren't supposed to publicly use our gifts.

Annabeth can, since her gift is basically being super smart.

We got books, robes, wands, and other stuff before heading to the Leaky Cauldron. That's a strange name, though all the names here seem strange. We hauled our bags up to our rooms.

To save space, Annabeth and I share a room, and so do Jason and Piper, and Hazel and Frank. The best part is that Clarisse and Thalia have to share a two-bed room, and so do Nico and Leo. I can't wait to see how that turns out. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are also staying here for the night, until the train for Hogwarts leaves.
