Today is not a day I'm looking forward to.
It's another dreaded "First Day", and, in case your wondering, I have a lot of those.
"Elaina, get your butt down here!" My father yells. He's a nice guy, I swear, he just doesn't have much tolerance for tardiness. I blame the drill sergeant.
I walk down the stairs to the kitchen of my new house.
"Au revoir, my lovely girl!" My mother yells, but much sweeter than my father.
"Au revoir, Momma! Je'taime!" I yell back, walking out of the door.
We do a lot of yelling, my family.
I sit on the curb, waiting for the yellow demon to pick me up. Aka, the school bus.
As I'm waiting, a blond haired guy comes and sits next to me.
We sit in silence for a minute or so.
"I'm Luke." He says. Dang, this boy's voice is, uh. I'm not going to finish because that thought made me slightly uncomfortable.
"Elaina." I mumble back, taking a bite of my apple.
"I guess we're neighbors." Luke says, looking at the ground.
"Yep." I say
"Have you made any friends?" He asks
"Nope" I say, popping the "P".
"I'll show you around, if you'd like." He says, glancing at me.
"K." I say
"You don't talk much, do you?" He says, smirking a bit.
"Oh trust me, once you get to know me, I never shut up." I say, laughing.
"Elaina, I see a prosperous friendship ahead of us."
Now I'm confused.
"Really?" I ask.
"Totally."
I'm about to ask more, but then the demon comes to swallow us and take us to the land of broken dreams.
The bus is pretty much full by the time Luke and I get on. Great. I have no idea where to sit.
Luke does though. He sits next to a boy that I can only describe as adorable.
Luke must notice my confusion, because he immediately turns to a slightly curly haired boy across the aisle.
"Ashton, can my friend Elaina sit with you? She's new." Luke says
"Of course." Ashton says, scooting over so I can sit.
"Thanks." I say, smiling. Wow, this is a first.
I notice that Ashton looks a little old for this school.
"If you don't mind me asking, how old are you, exactly?" I ask
"I'm 19. I got held back a year." Ashton answers, not really ashamed of the fact.
"Ah." I say
"Where do you come from?" He asks
"Why?" I ask
"Your accent is... interesting. Vaguely Irish, with something thrown in there." He says, hitting spot on.
"I move a lot. I lived in Ireland for 8 years, so I guess that's why that's the most prominent accent in my voice." I answer.
"Cool." Ok, he has just said something never said before, "I like it. It's... unique."
The bus slams to a stop as it lets another person on.
He has, uh, blue hair?
"Who is that?" I ask Ashton.
"That's Michael." He answers.
Ok then.
He sits in the seat behind us.
"Calum, why is this girl sitting in MY seat?" Michael says to the adorable boy next to Luke, and for a moment I'm worried that he'll ruin my budding friendships.
But then he laughs.
"I'm just messing with you! What's your name?" Michael asks
"Elaina! Her name is Elaina!" Ashton says.
"I can introduce myself, you know."
So far, this has been interesting...
