His nerves were getting the better of him as he watched the numbers on the screen above the metal doors of the elevator gradually increase. He'd waited an entire two weeks for this meeting, waited and fantasized about the day he'd finally be able to call Mikey his, and now that the day was finally closer to say he was giddy was a total understatement. Pete contained himself as he reached the correct floor and approached the doe-eyed woman with loud, red lipstick sat at the lobby desk.
"Welcome to Bow and Arrow Match Services. How may I help you today, sir?"
"Hi. Erm-I'm here for the 5 pm. Pete Wentz."
She typed away on the computer before looking back up at him with a reassuring smile.
"Ah. Yes. Here you are. You can wait in the lobby. He'll be with you shortly."
A few other people were already sat in some chairs, not too many seeing that it was already well into the evening but enough to make Pete slightly more comfortable with the idea of being there because he could admit that he was desperate, but knowing other people in the same room as him were too, put him at ease about his "extreme" adoration for Mikey. The minute hand on the clock near him ticked by ever so slowly, each tick becoming a harsh reminder of his reasoning for being there. Pete didn't think it was insane to do this, to ask someone to guide him in the laws of love. He could've done it all by himself- introduced who he was to Mikey and gotten to know him personally- but that wasn't how things turned out for Pete. It was too easy to say he could do something, but it was a whole other ballpark to actually go out and do it.
All he needed was a push- a big push toward the right direction to build his confidence and spirit. If paying for that to happen would mean that he was guaranteed to land in the right court with Mikey, then he was willing to whip out his credit card and spend however much was necessary. He'd done research on Patrick while he had waited for a phone call back on his application because he had been scammed in the past, considering he thought everything was an awesome innovation when presented in a thrilling manner, and he had wanted to ensure that this Patrick Stump was the real deal and not some joke built up on a throne of lies. What he had found impressed him immensely. The guy was some sort of whiz in love with a vastly comprehensive understanding of relationships and the ability to accurately and successfully aid people in basically finding their other half according to the personal accounts he'd read up on in forums and review websites, and he was only five years Pete's junior.
It blew his mind thinking about the empire Patrick had built for himself in a matter of ten years while Pete had been at the same job in that amount of time, completing tasks he didn't even enjoy as much as he would if he were a true journalist. He was like a god in Pete's eyes, and Pete was going to soak up whatever divine wisdom and advice Patrick had to offer him. His name was called then, so he followed the secretary through a hallway to some double doors with a giant masterpiece of elegant designs carved into them through swirls and spirals that formed hearts and flowers and feather-like shapes. It absolutely mesmerized him.
She opened one door for him and walked away, so Pete entered on his own. He hadn't seen any pictures of the man coincidentally, and he hadn't really thought much of what he would look like, but he certainly hadn't expected to see a tiny man with platinum bleached hair and bright green eyes sat at that desk in a neat pressed vest over his smooth dress shirt that held not even the slightest crinkle. It fascinated him how one little guy with an interesting sense of style could have an influence over the rates at which couples were forming in this day and age.
"Welcome. Have a seat, Mr. Wentz. I'm Patrick, but I think you would know that already since you signed up," he told him, folding his hands atop the sleek, reflective surface of his black desk.
"Yeah. Um-you can just call me Pete."
"Alright, Pete. How old are you?" Patrick said.
"35. Why do you need to know that?"
