I sat down behind a girl with short blonde hair, her T-shirt was nicely tucked in her short skirt. I wore blue jeans and a plain long T-shirt even though it was hot outside.

Suddenly the girl noticed that I was behind her as I put my things on my desk. She moved over to another desk as she made a face. I realized that she's friends with one of the girls that liked to pick on me. How could I forget that?

I turned around and noticed nobody sat behind me. Nobody even sat in front of me either. I saw at the back of the class that there were two empty seats that were in front and behind me. I knew nobody was going to take advantage of that.

"Alright class, get your homework out from yesterday," Mrs. Rosario said, getting out her grade book and pen. Everyone groaned and got out their homework. I placed my homework flat on my desk and waited for her to come by to my seat and check it.

As she walked around the classroom, checking everyone off with her grade book and pen in hand, someone suddenly knocked on the door and came in before Mrs. Rosario could say anything.

I flinched as I saw Dallas Winston walk into the classroom with a note in his hand. He was one of the troublemakers in the class. He was tough, colder and meaner than the others. He was a greaser just like my boyfriend Two-Bit Matthews, but he wasn't anything like Two-Bit Matthews. In fact, he was different from Two-Bit and any other greaser in school.

He was one year older than me and everyone else in this class. He got held back a grade. He had to repeat this class again in order to graduate.

He also picked on me and laughed at me with the others in class whenever someone said a hurtful joke towards me.

"Dallas Winston, you're late," Mrs. Rosario snarled with lips sealed as she came by my desk. She checked my work off on my paper and in her grade book.

"Excellent job Maria" Mrs. Rosario said as her eyes scanned my paper. I nodded with a smile as she said that. I felt proud of making good grades, to be honest with you.

"C'mon Mrs. Rosario, I wasn't even skipping this time." Dallas rolled his eyes as Mrs. Rosario walked by his desk.

"You're still late Dallas. Class has started and you don't even have your homework with you." Mrs. Rosario shook her head in disappointment. I knew she expected more from Dallas. But why? Dallas was a bad kid and he didn't even care about this class anyways.

"Oh... about that... my dog ate it for dinner. I didn't have any money to feed him so I just gave it to him." Dallas handed her the note. The whole class started laughing expect for me.

"Greasers these days." I heard a Soc say in front of the classroom. But of course, Dallas didn't say or do anything. I don't think he heard the Soc saying it. If he did, then he would have called him out in front of the whole class.

"Please take your seat, Dallas. I'm about to start class if you don't mind." Mrs. Rosario sighed, rubbing her temper.

Poor Mrs. Rosario. I knew she got tired putting up with people in her class such as Dallas every day at school.

"Of course, I don't mind at all." Dallas laughed and scanned the room to find a seat. His eyes met mine as he looked for a seat and I knew this was trouble.

"Well someone took my seat, so I'm guessing I'm sitting here." Dallas mumbled under his breath, walking towards the seat behind me.

"Well hello there, don't you look today?" Dallas said in a mocking voice as he sat down on the seat behind me, tugging on my hair.

I glared at him as I turned around to look at him. I knew I had to stand up for myself so I wouldn't let Dallas bother me anymore. I needed to. I wasn't going to let myself look weak anymore. Now, this is my chance.

"Please stop. I don't like to be touched. So keep your hands away from me. " I said quietly, feeling my voice cracked a little. Curse my vocals!

"Whatcha gonna do about it? Nothing. So turn around. You're like the top piece of bread. Everyone touches you. But nobody wants you. Everyone in the class knows it." Dallas said, leaning back in his chair.

Ouch, that one really did hurt.... I thought, feeling offended by it.

I shouldn't even let it get me... but what Dallas said was right.... He was right about that...

"So be careful who you're talking to because you can get your feelings hurt" Dallas said in a warning voice. I didn't say anything but turned around to the front and listen to Mrs. Rosario talking about parts of speech.

I wished this class would go by faster...
