Chapter Three | Silently Torn Into Pieces

The class lasted for like an hour. I have been sitting in my seat and listening to Mrs. Rosario teaching us literature and what we needed to learn.

Meanwhile, Dallas just kept tapping his foot on my desk and mumbling things under his breath like 'This is so boring.' or 'I can't wait to get out of this class.' And 'Why do we have to do this dumb stuff?'

I finally let out of a happy sigh as the bell rang for the class to be dismissed. As I started to carry my books in my arms, suddenly Dallas stepped on the back of my shoe.

"Oops sorry." Dallas let out a smirk. I rolled my eyes and started walking out of the classroom.

I started to look for Two-Bit Matthews and Dalal, but they were nowhere to be found. In the hallways, there were a bunch of kids talking to each other or just in their lockers, putting their stuff away.

"Eww, there's the turd," I heard someone say behind me, followed by a bunch of giggles. I turned around and saw Alyssa and her friends giggling at me.

"She's so ugly from up-close, you guys," I heard Dorothy say to Alyssa as she gave me a dirty look. Dorothy, Priscilla, Lauren, and Bianca were all friends of Alyssa.

They loved to pick on me and giggle whenever they saw me. They called me rude names that would usually just hit me really good in the chest.

I hated when they picked on me. They were the usual stuck-up and popular girls in school.

"Oh, hey Maria. I didn't see you there.'' Alyssa flipped her long brown hair as she gave me a fake smile. Her friends behind her were trying so hard not to giggle. It's so obvious they were being fake and not actually being nice to me.

She's trying to make fun of me... That's what she's doing.

"Maria, by the way... Where did you get your shirt from? Like I absolutely love it," Alyssa said as she pretends to admire the shirt I was wearing. I wasn't that stupid. I knew she's making fun of me.

"Uhm, at the store? Where else?" I mumbled under my breath, giving her a shrug.

"Oh how cute!" Alyssa gave a fake giggle, still fake smiling at me. I could tell by her facial expression that she was waiting for me to make a fool out of myself by asking me questions so she and her friends could laugh at me.

"Girl you stink, you need to take a shower," Priscilla suddenly said at me as she started coughing dramatically.

"Oh my god Priscilla that is so mean!" Alyssa said as she and her friends started laughing so loud that half of the kids in the hallway turned their heads to look at them. I felt my cheeks turn bright red.

I didn't even stink. I take showers every single day! Why would Priscilla say something like that? Oh, right...

"C'mon you guys, let's get out of here. I can't stand being around her. She really does stink ew.'' Priscilla made a face at me as she held her nose up while walking pass me.

"Bye Maria. I'll see you around." Alyssa gave me another fake smile as she walked away with her friends. I heard her say, "Did you see that? She looks and sounds so much like a man! I don't see why she even has a boyfriend. She's too damn ugly. She looks more like a man than a girl."

I sighed and felt tears coming out of my eyes. Not today Maria... You promised yourself you wouldn't cry over something like this. You have to be strong...

"That was funny wasn't it?" I heard a familiar voice say from not too far away. I looked up to see who it was and was not surprised, it was Dallas Winston.

"Shut up," I say as I began walking away from him. I didn't have time for this. I just wanted to find either Two-Bit or Dalal and cry in their arms. I didn't wanna be in this place anymore.

"That was so hilarious on what they were saying to you." Dallas started laughing and leaned on the wall. "Priscilla's comment made me laugh so hard. I'll never forget that." He chuckled as he shook his head.

I felt like I was going to explode. I suddenly stopped walking and stood there. My blood began to boil and my face began to turn red. He did not just say that!

"Say that again, I fucking dare you," I said in anger, looking straight at him. I was beginning to look angry and felt my heart pound faster. I had never stood up for myself like this before.

"What are you going to do? Nothing. You're just a-" Dallas said, looking straight at me. I cut him off by slapping him across the cheek.

I began to run down the hallway as I realized that I just slapped Dallas across the cheek and, oh boy did he look pissed...

"Come back here, you little-" I heard Dallas start chasing after me. Heads were turning towards me as I continued running in the hallway.

I didn't stop running until I made it to the school doors which lead to outside.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, I made it to the school doors and went outside.

I started coughing and felt my lungs burning as I put my hands on my knees, breathing heavily. I didn't hear Dallas running after me. I hope he didn't find me. I knew I was dead meat if he found me.

"Hey Pumpkin, what's going on? You alright baby?" I heard Two-Bit's voice, the most soothing thing that I needed to hear. Thank God he was here!

"Keith!" I said, looking up and went straight to him, giving him a hug.

"Maria, you alright? You look like you have seen a ghost. Dalal and I have been looking all over for you and Dally told me that you were outside or something." Two-Bit kissed my forehead.

Before I could ask who Dally was, we heard the school doors slam as they opened.

"Two-Bit, I'm going to kill your girlfriend! How come you didn't tell me you were dating her?" Dallas spat as he said 'her', making it seem like I was a pile of trash.

"Wait you know him?" I pointed at Dallas as I gave him a look. "You know Dallas Winston?"

"Yeah, Dallas is my friend. He's also in the gang with me. Why, you guys know each other?" He asked, looking at both of us.

"She's in my class," Dallas said as his eyes were glaring at me angrily.

"Really? I didn't know that," Two-Bit said, running his fingers through my hair. I sighed angrily under my breath, looking back at Dallas. I wasn't afraid to glare at him.

"Let's go home honey, I don't wanna be here," I said, laying my head on Two-Bit's chest as I hugged him.

"I know you don't baby. I'll take you home alright? But tomorrow you have to go to all your classes. I don't want you to fail." He pecked me on the lips. I giggled and pecked him back.

"I won't honey. I promise," I said with an another giggle and glanced back at Dallas, who kept glaring at me and Two-Bit. But I don't think Two-Bit noticed or saw Dallas glaring at us.

Who knows what Dallas was thinking?
