Mei Mei cut the coupon from the magazine and filled in the title of the song that she wanted the DJ to play on her programme.  She had always loved the song ever since she heard it over Radio One when Jeanette Joseph played it.

She paused over the space for the song dedication message...she didn't want to come across too direct; after all, boys liked to do the chasing.

She contemplated whether it was a good idea to begin with.  She can almost hear her mother's critical tone, "Tan Mei Mei, I brought you up to be a respectable lady.  And a respectable girl does not tell a boy she likes him.  That's a boy's prerogative."

Suddenly she recalled her English teacher's words - Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  Mrs DeSouza probably didn't meant that as dating advice but if the shoe fits...

She dropped the finished coupon into a stamped envelope and made a mental note to get a gown like Jennifer Warnes.
