My third hour class was the most boring class I have ever experienced. History. I have always hated learning about history; I've never understood the point of it. I mean, who cares if the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware was completely inaccurate?

Now, I had Spanish II. I got in the room earlier than I had to my other classes, so I actually had several seats to choose from. I chose to sit next to Emily. "Hey!" she said as soon as she saw me. "How many classes do we have with each other?"

"I don't know." I said. I handed her my schedule.

"Cool! We have Chemistry, and PE together. And we have the same lunch shift."

"Great," I replied. "At least now I will have someone who knows where they're going."

She grinned. "So," she said as she wiggled her eyebrows.

"What?" I asked. "Do I have something on my face?"

She laughed. "No. But it seems Asher has taken a liking to you, huh?"

"Dear God, no," I said.

"Come on, Al. Haven't you seen it?"

"Seen what? All I've seen is him being a dick to me since I got here."

"You guys are so cute."

What was this girl talking about? "Cute? Emily, he has literally been being a complete asshat since I arrived at this hellhole."

She looked somewhere above my head. "Oh really?" I heard from behind me.

I groaned and turned around. "I have this class with you, too?"

"Yes," Asher smirked. "And since I'm a complete asshat, I'm going to sit right here," he said as he sat down next to me.

I groaned again and turned back to Emily. "So," she said for the second time. "How smart are you?"

"What do you mean?"

"Oh come on. Don't go all Justin Bieber on me. I saw your last class. College courses, huh?"

I was confused. "Yes. I've been taking them since freshman year."

Her jaw dropped. "What?"

"I said--."

"No, shut up. I know what you said. But freshman year? Wow."

"All I've had to do is keep my grades all A's."

She scoffed. "You say it like it's easy. Some of us aren't nerds like you."

"Wow, that's really good, Lessie," said Asher from behind me.

I turned to him. "Don't call me that." I gave him my best death glare and turned back to Emily. "I'm not a nerd."

"You so are," she said cracking up. "Where's your glasses?"

I fake glared at her. "In my bag," I played along.

She laughed harder. The second bell rang, and the teacher-- Mr. Armstrong, my schedule told me-- walked into the classroom.

"Morning, class," he said in a bored tone. He started passing out Spanish books. "Here's your books for the year. You will be doing assignments from the book every day except for on Fridays. It's only Wednesday, so you can get started on Lesson 1."

Wow. What a dick, I thought. "You can work with partners if you'd like," Mr. Armstrong finished. Nevermind.

Emily turned to face me eyebrows raised. I nodded. "Asher, want to work with us?" Emily asked. I silently prayed he'd say no.
