CHAPTER 4 (LONG ASF)

Jughead holds Betty's hand tight, fearing for what he knows will come next. Nothing he can do about it, though.
Jughead enters the room to see Archie, Veronica, and Zack all standing in a semicircle. He brings Betty closer at the site of his brother.

"Hey, Co-"

"Don't call me that." Jughead abruptly cuts Zack off.

"Jug, it's ok, he's being nice," Archie assures. Jughead rolls his eyes. Deep down a part of him wanted to forgive Zack, but for some reason, seeing him made that part of him fade.

"Jughead," Zack corrected himself, "I came here... so I could say sorry... so I could fix things with you. Maybe, maybe we can figure things out..." Zack was so stunned by how different 'Jughead' looked that he fumbled his words. Did he really do this to his own brother? Did he really have to change his whole appearance? Zack wanted to hug him, do something, he wanted his life to get back together again, he wanted to see Jughead with Bailey again, he wishes he didn't do what he did, he ruined everything between Bailey and Jughead, and Jughead's future for colleges.

"Can you guys go... so we can just... talk alone," Jughead says, looking over at Betty. Betty gives his hand a squeeze and she leaves into the kitchen, as does Archie and Veronica.

"Guys, Zack isn't a bad guy," Archie says quietly to Veronica and Betty. They both give him a look.

"Look, he told me what happened, sure he's not the best-behaved guy, but I mean, we all know what can happen when you get drunk... ok so... and I know what he did was terrible, but he's good, he came all this way to make things right," Archie finishes.

"Yeah, he seems really sorry... he looks like he hasn't slept in days, is he okay?" Betty says, worried about Zack.

"He... he has depression, guys, it's bad...and he told me he can barely sleep, I feel bad for him, ya know, what he did, he's really upset about it," Archie adds, looking down at his feet.

"Well I think it's the right thing for him to come here, ya know... I mean, who knows what he could have done to himself if he waited any longer..." Veronica speaks up. They all silently nod at that note.

"Jughead, you know how sorry I am for what I did," Zack says, doubting anything he says will change Jughead's heart, or mind.

"No, actually? I don't know how sorry you are! Do you even know how bad it is, what you did?"

"Yes! Of course I know, listen, Cody-"

"Jughead...."

"Jughead, right, I did as much as I could okay, I reached out to those colleges, I fixed some things, I- I talked to Bailey-"

"Might as well go off and have sex with her again..." Jughead mumbles.

"I would never do that!"

"Really, how can I believe you? You did it once, you'll do it again. Oh, or maybe you won't, because, ya know, you're 'too cool' for that right, you hook up with a bunch of girls. So instead of actually treating Bailey like she's an actual girl, an amazing, beautiful girl who is worth so much more than a one night stand, you move on, right!? And I bet you think that's hella fun, hooking up with different girls, you neevvverrrr get bored, do you? You'll never get bored of ruining my life, will you!" Jughead feels his heart in his throat, just pounding so hard and fast. He was so angry at this point he could punch Zack. Zack felt so hurt. he came all the way to Riverdale, and for what, to get even more destroyed than he already was? Every word coming out of Jughead was cold, every look he gave sliced through Zack's heart.
