We find no other groups in town, so we pick up the supplies we need — mostly medical — and leave as quickly as possible. Not without being chased by a few Turned, but Silas's reckless driving comes in handy at these times. I still find myself nervous when she's on the wheel.
We're stopped by a military vehicle on the way out. They're scouts in charge of looking for refugees. They don't have the resources to escort us, so they simply send us on our way to the camps. The survival tips they give us we already knew. "Just never get too cocky," they warn. I notice the one in the passenger seat has a bloody stump instead of an arm.
I thought Bronte might be interested in meeting them, but he sleeps through it all.
