"Why?" Jack asked himself. "Why aren't I happy?" He didn't understand. He watched as he sat in windowsill while the rest of the guardians celebrate their victory that transpired one year ago. "Why aren't I smiling?" Everyone was smiling, even Bunny, and having fun as party continued. But Jack couldn't bring himself to party with them, he just didn't feel like it. He sighed and flew out of the top window, flying back to the scene. The pond where he was reborn as he Jack Frost, right next to Burgess. He frowned as he walked toward the last place he saw him before his own nightmares swallowed him.
Jack frowned harder at the memory, but he groaned at the guilt he felt from it. Why was he guilty? He did nothing wrong, except for going against Pitch. But it was the right thing to do. Wasn't it? He looked at Pitch's eyes that day as they held fear, they also held betrayal while they were fixed onto Jack's. "Why were you just looking at me?" Jack whispered as he looked at the patch of dark dirt covered that used to be Pitch's lair entrance, dragging the curve part of his staff across it. Then suddenly, it was grabbed making the winter spirit screamed in fright before realizing it wasn't some type of monster plant or something. It was a hand, a dark grey hand. Pitch's dark grey hand. Jack started pulling the staff with all his might as the hand slowly revealed a arm. Jack kept pulling hoping for the hand to lose its grip, but it held the staff tightly. Jack groaned as he pulled harder and the dirt cracked, collapsing as Pitch was dragged out of his hell hole. Jack's eyes widen as he gasped at the sight before him, the former nightmare king falling unconscious. His body covered in bruises and scars yet still with open wounds, oozing red blood that stained his robe. Jack shook his head as he groaned before descending into the sky.
"North gonna kill me if he finds out." Jack whispered to himself as he flew to an abandoned shack in Antarctica that was his home before he moved in with North. He went inside and got his emergency first aid kit, flying back to the pond. Pitch was still unconscious so Jack picked him up and dived into Pitch's lair. Remembering where Pitch's bedroom was, Jack carried him inside and gently laid him on the bed. He carefully removed Pitch's robe and set it to to side before starting to clean his wounds. Once they were clean, Jack wrapped them them up in gauzes and bandage wrapping. Then he wiped the dried blood off of Pitch's face with sigh. Tears actually threatened to leave his eyes as he looked down at the unconscious Pitch. He sighed sadly as he realized what made so guilty.
FIVE YEARS AGO
Jack and Pitch were best friends before the guardians were involved. They were inseparable and they always had each other's back. But when Pitch set out to find Jack to tell him something, he saw Jack breaking one of their rules: talking to one of the guardians which was Toothiana. Then Pitch saw them kiss (really Tooth kissing Jack) and left before seeing Jack push her after he heard footsteps. They got into a huge argument that ended their relationship.
"You promised me you'd never talk to them!"
"Pitch, I didn't do anything! She came onto me!"
"Likely story! I saw you kiss her!"
"She kissed me!"
"YOU STILL DIDN'T PULL AWAY!"
"YES I DID!"
"YOU ARE A LIAR!"
"You know what, you're just jealous that someone else actually talked to me!"
"Oh that's rich! Just point out the fact I don't talk anyone! Like that's helping your case."
"You know sometimes I WONDER why I even hangout with you?! I'd much rather be better off being with someone that isn't so horridly lonely and pathetic." Pitch was taken back, so was Jack. Those words had no emotion other than anger, but Pitch didn't see it that way. Jack didn't know how his feelings were exploded like that. He didn't mean anything he just said. If anything, it was false. He loved being with Pitch, he loved Pitch. But he never said anything, not sure if Pitch felt the same way. Pitch turned away and wrapped his arms around himself.
"If you think your better off without me! If you think you should be with someone else, then leave. Leave and never come back!" Jack gasped slightly and frown with heartbreak, yet also in anger.
"You know what, FINE!"
"FINE!"
"FINE."
"FINE!" Jack growled and turned around as he walked away, tempted to turned back around but he didn't. So he didn't see a tear drop to the floor from Pitch's face.
BACK TO THE PRESENT
Jack frowned and sighed sadly at the memory, still staring down at Pitch. He lifted his hand and lovingly caressed his cheek as a tear hits Pitch's face from Jack's eyes.
"I'm sorry, Kozmotis. For everything." Jack whispered, not sure if the unconscious nightmare king could hear him in his state. Jack laid his head down into Pitch's head and let his weary eyes be consumed with darkness into a dreamless sleep.
