I just stared at the bedroom celing. Alicia's words lingered in my mind. You are different. After our discovery about my uniqeness I had ran upto my room and locked myself. Alicia hadnt even come upto my room. I guess she was shocked herself. But the thing that was stinging me was that I will be taken. I remember Alicia telling me in the car about how they are taken away from their family and friends, about how their lives are destroyed.
And the worst part: school tomorrow. Thinking about school just got me feeling uneasy. Then suddenly a thought struck me. Is this the reason I was locked down by Mrs Hamilton? Is this why I was unexposed to the world? I have to talk to Mrs Hamilton now. Should I call her or should I just call her son: Scott? Scott had been my favorite person before he suddenly dissapeard a year ago. I had his number but he never picked up my calls. He was the only one who ever gave me presents on Christmas. He was the only one who remembered my birthday. I miss him. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door.
"Avy, please open the door. Avy.. are you awake?" Alicia asked. I opened door. She didnt look shocked or diissapointed anymore. She just steped in my room, looked in my eyes and hugged me tightly.
"Look. We are going to be fine. I am not going to let them take you. We'll find out a way, there has to be." She said holding my hand.
"Yes, there has to be a way. There has to be. But Alicia...Do you think Mrs Hamilton knew about me.. I mean that I am different?"
"Oh my god yes! Do you have her number? Call her!" She said getting my phone from my bed and handing it to me. I should call her. I dialed the residence number.
"Hello, this is Hamilton's residence." Courtney answered. She was one of my room mates. Again, I wasnt really close to her.
"Hi Courtney this is Avyana here. Umm I wanted to talk to Mrs Hamilton. Is she around?" I asked. There was a long silenece on the phone after I asked.
"Courtney? Are you there?" I asked. I heard sobbing sounds. Geez what is happeneing?
"Courtney what is happening? Are you oka-"
"Avyana..Mrs Ha-ammill-ton..ss-hee-"
"What happened? Whats is happeneing?" I asked. Something is wrong. Oh god no.
"Mrs Ha-amil-ttton is... is no more." She sobbed fircely. "S-she passsed away t-this afternon." She said.
The phone slipped from my hands. I couldnt feel my legs. No this cant be happening. I could hear Alicia asking questions in the baground. Why is this happening? I suddenly remembered Mrs Hamiltons words. 'No Avyana, this might be the last time we meet. My blessings are always there with you'
"Its like she knew that she is going to die." I thought out loud. For a minute I had forgotten Alicia is there.
"Die? Who was gonna die? Whats going on Avy? Talk to me." Alicia was undoubtedly curious.
"Mrs Hamilton passed away this afternoon. She is no more... Before leaving she had said that I would never see her again. Its like she knew she is going to die." I explained. A tear dripped from my eyes. Today is an unending day.
"What? Oh lord no. Are you fine?" She asked.
"Yes. I will be. I wasnt that close to her. So now I will never know if she knew about me or not." I will be fine. I am sure. But what about Scott? Did he know?
"Mrs Hamilton has a son. Scott. He was my favorite person..I think he knew about me. I should call him." I told Alicia. As I bent down to grab my phone Alicia grabbed my hand.
"No Avy! We cant trust anyone. What if her tells them about you? Do you know there is a monetary reward for people who report about different people? We cant trust anyone. No one." Alicia is obviously trying to be protective. I could see it. Even though I trusted Scott, she was right. The risk was too much.
