Chapter 3:

Summer's POV

I almost stumbled down stairs due to running so fast. "Daad!" I yelled hoping he was home. "What?!" He shouted angrily. 'What's his problem?' I asked myself. I heard his booming voice though the halls, so that's where I went.

As I jogged through the long hallway, I stopped at a familiar photo of a woman that looked just like an older version of me. It was my mom. I've always passed this photo regularly. Almost as if I hadn't noticed it at all. She had light brown hair and soft brown eyes, like me. I never knew what happened to my mom. My dad said that she had died from a car accident a year after I was born, but I don't believe that for a second. I continued walking down the hall until I came across his bedroom door. Lights flickered on and off under the crack of the beaten door. It had dents, cracks, and was hanging on one hinge, probably from when he gets mad while he's drunk. I knock on the fragile door and it falls flatly on the ground, revealing a distressed looking man. "When are we leaving to um..." Hoping he could finish my sentence. "Iowa." "Yeah Iowa." I finish.

"We're leaving on Tuesday at 2:11 am on a train," he states. I nod and head out the door, well where the door was. Yes! Yes yes yes! We leave in the same day, so my dad won't be suspicious. So far my plan is working! Now all I have to do is get some cash, which won't be hard to do since it's lying right there in front of me on the couch. I just take half and run upstairs, locking the door behind me. I leap onto my mattress. I count up the money and it turns out there's $502 in my hand. I pull out my phone and text Kai what has happens so far.

Kai's POV

I can't believe it's already Monday night. I haven't seen Summer in two days and it feels weird not seeing her for such a long time. I've already packed everything that I need. My suitcase consists of my iMac, iPhone, charger, my iPod, earbuds, my painting products, my clothes, shoes, hair brushes, books, etc.

My feet padded on the wooden floor as I walked into the kitchen. I grabbed a glass cup, and poured myself some sweet lemonade. I let the flavor explore my mouth and savored the taste. As I opened my eyes, they caught a glimpse of a think green stack on the counter. There, was 2,005 right there in front of my eyes! I picked it up and ran up too my room and shut it. Hard.

Ok so I have my suitcase. Check. My money. Check. A way of escaping. Check. And making sure that the plan hasn't changed and Summer completely was on board. Check! I lay on my bed and think about everything that has happened in a spam of about 4 days.

I could be taking the greatest chance of my life or the biggest regret, but I try not to think about that. Just me. Summer, and The big apple, with no one getting in our way. I wonder what New York is really like . Is it really like in the movies with bright lights and busy streets, or just a big polluted city full of snappy people and everything moving at a fast pace? I try to stay positive but you can't have a rainbow without a little rain, right? My thoughts start to float further and further, until it's in the back of my mind where it's dark. Just like my eyes were beginning to become.

Kai's POV

I sat up from my bed, letting my eyes open and soon become shot by the suns bright rays. I yelped and sprang up from my bed. I still couldn't believe today was the day we go! I danced into the bathroom and put on one of my favorite songs '#thatPOWER' and took a short shower. When I let my hair air dry and put my dirty blonde hair in my 'famous quiff' as Summer like to call it. I look at myself in the mirror, smile, and whisper "Today's the day."
