"I didn't realize at first that those were going to be his last last words... That moment will always be the most heart wrenching memory that I will have and yet I know that I will treasure them always."

[Carla's POV]

I felt my brow scrunch up and I moved my gaze to the table cloth, trying to focus on Taylor's words.

"Tay? What going on?" There was silence on the other end. "Taylor! Stop messing with me."

"Carla, I- Shit, I'm sorry, I just wanted- no, needed to hear your voice."

I took a deep breath and tried to calm down, Evan was giving me a confused look from across the table. "Where are you? What's going on, Tay?"

I could hear my brother panting through the phone. "Carla, I don't think I'm gonna make it. I just want to say that I'm sorry-"

"What are you talking about, Tay? What are you sorry for? Speak to me, please." Tears welled in my eyes.

Taylor groaned. "An accident. Carla, I wa sin an accident."

I felt the blood leave my face. Evan obviously saw my reaction because he reached across the table and grabbed my hand roughly. I looked up at him as I asked my next question, "Accident? Taylor, where are you?" I watched as Evan stiffened in his seat. We were looking at each other, both of us holding our breaths.

"I- I'm not sure, Car. But I think an ambulance is coming, there are people shouting outside."

"Taylor, you're going to be alright, okay?" I couldn't move but Evan signaled the waiter and pulled out his wallet. He moved into action so fast that I couldn't comprehend why he was rushing to leave.

"Car..." Taylor was sobbing and at the sound of his cries, the tears in my eyes started to slowly fall. "Car, it hurts and- and I know that this is it. I'm so sorry... I just don't think I can hold on."

Evan moved around the table so fast and put his arm around me. Subconsciously, I knew that he wanted me to move, to get to the car but I was frozen in my seat. I jumped when I heard the sound of metal scraping from the phone. Tay cried out in pain and my hand clenched the table cloth even tighter.

"Tay? Taylor!" Evan's face moved closer to the phone as though he were trying to listen in.

"Ahh, Car... It's okay, I'm still here."

"Taylor, where are you?" We were causing a ruckus. I felt eyes on me and briefly I thought that I should lower my voice but then I realized my situation. I didn't care what anyone saw or what they thought about it. My big brother was hurting and I couldn't do anything ot stop it. Tears were flowing freely down my cheeks and my breathing was catching in my throat. "Taylor..."

"It doesn't matter now. I need to say something to you, alright? You listening carefully?" I nodded my head before I remembered that he wouldn't be able to see it. I made an indiscernable sound and Taylor coughed out a laugh followed by a soft groan of pain. "Car, I want you to be happy. You need to promise me that you will live a long and happy life."

"Taylor..."

"I'm serious, Car. I want you to be happy, even though I won't be there to see it."

"Stop it, stop saying things like that."

"Carla, you need to shut up and listen to me. You need to listen to what I'm saying carefully and you need to tell me how much you love me cause that will be something you will regeret later, okay? Stop trying to be optimistic or denying all of this. I am dy- I'm dying in here, Car, and I just need to say these things before I go because I need you to hear them. I need to say it before I can't anymore."
