*Rory P.O.V*
"That was fucking amazing!"
"We almost died Brooke."
"Don't be such a buzzkill Rory."
This is the conversation I had with Brooke after we did, in fact, almost actually die.
(Earlier that night)
We were having a great time until I notice a looming figure behind us. My breathing stuttered and my heart pounded against my chest.
"Broo-Bro-ke." I stuttered, trying to get her attention.
"Haha wha-" She turned and for the first time, I saw a hint of fear in her eyes.
The figure swooped their hand down and grabbed Amara by her throat. She clawed at their hands but they lifted her above the ground as she kicked her legs.
"Traitor!" He screamed, as his fangs lengthened.
Brooke, Hendrix and I froze, we'd never seen the full length of a vampires fangs.
"Devon let me go!" Amara hissed as his grip tightened.
"How dare you! How dare you betray your own kind! Your family!"
"It was just some firecrackers mate, calm down." Brooke said sarcastically, but I could here the tremor in her voice. Devon looked at Brooke then threw Amara to the ground.
"You think you're funny dog?" He spat, stepping closer.
"I think I'm adorable." Brooke smirked.
'Brooke what are you doing?' I whispered. This vampire could kill us at any moment. But before he could take another step Amara launched herself at him, pinning him to the ground.
"Run!" She screamed while struggling with him. But we were all frozen to the ground, none of us even blinking as Amara viciously fought with him.
"Run you fur brains!"
Suddenly we found our heads and sprinted for the forest, expecting to change into wolf form, forgetting about the spray Brooke put on us.
We ran as fast as we could, but not having our full strength meant we were only as fast as our human selves. We could hear the vampires gaining on us.
'Oh god, what do we do?' I thought frantically.
Suddenly a force from behind knocked me to the ground. I struggled to roll over and came face to face with a vampire.
"You stupid filth!" He spat.
"Do you really think you could disrespect us and get away with it?" Slowly his canines lengthened and I shut my eyes. I knew I wasn't going to come out of this alive. But then, nothing happened.
I opened my eyes slowly to find him staring at me confused. "What is that scent?" He asked.
"Wh-what?"
"Your scent it's; different." He slowly leaned closer to me and practically put his nose on my neck, then took in a deep breath.
"It's almost..." He stopped mid sentence, like he didn't believe what he was saying.
Before he could open his mouth again, Brooke came screaming out of the trees with a branch, hitting the vampire in the face.
He hissed at her as he flew off me.
"Stay back!" Brooke yelled, holding the branch out. The vampire gave her a menacing look then looked at me. But it wasn't the same, it was as if he knew something I didn't. My eyes widened as he continued to stare.
Brooke took the branch and hit the vampire over the head again.
"Stupid wolf!" He cursed, trying to swat the branch away. His irritation was palpable.
"I said stay back!" Brooke threatened. The vampire let out a low hiss then reluctantly turned to run back.
"That's right you better run!" Brooke called after him.
When he was out of sight Brooke turned to me and grabbed my shoulders.
"Oh my gosh I'm so glad you're okay!" She breathed out then hugged me.
"Yeah I'm fine." I definitely was not. "What about Hendy? Have you seen him?" I asked worried he wasn't with Brooke.
"Well we all got separated, so I picked up this branch and just ran around until I found one of you." Brooke said with her brows raised.
"But now that I've found you we can look for Hendy together." I nodded in agreement.
We quietly walked around the forest, unsure if there were any vampires still here. Brooke had her branch ready just in case. The spray had stared to where off and we were slowly regaining our senses.
"I can't smell him. Can you?" I asked Brooke.
"Uhh.." She took a giant sniff in. "Nope." I was really starting to worry. How could we loose him? Our efforts seemed hopeless but then the ground started coughing.
"Ahh!" Brooke yelled and hit it with her branch.
"Ouch Brooke!"
"Hendrix!" Brooke and I yelled synchronised.
"Yeah and I would appreciate it, if you didn't hit me with that tree leg." He replied grumpily.
"Oh buddy, what happened to you?" Brooke asked as she helped him up.
"Well I was running and I went to look behind me to see if any of them were following me.. then I.. uh.." He trailed off, looking at the ground.
"Then you what?" I asked, smirking a little at Brooke, who was trying not to laugh.
"Well, I uh."
"You ran into that tree didn't you!" Brooke said joyfully.
"Okay! Yes I ran into the tree. No big deal." He said, still not making eye contact.
Brooke and I burst out laughing.
"You fucking idiot!" Brooke teased.
"Yeah well we were about to die, so cut me some slack okay?" Hendrix replied irritated. We tried to contain our laughter, but I'll be honest; it took a while.
We were all quiet as we made our way home. I guess the weight of what happened finally hit us.
My mind wondered to the events of the night, then I suddenly remembered that vampire, what he said. What did he mean my scent was different?
"Rory, you okay?" Hendrix asked. The confusion must have been obvious on my face.
"Yeah I'm fine. Just a little worn out I guess." It wasn't a complete lie, I was tired, but I couldn't bring myself to tell them what had happened.
It was cold and dark by this time. I'd said goodbye to Brooke and Hendrix when we went our seperate ways. It was then that I realised how late it was.
"Shit." I said out loud and started running. The last thing I want is Lucas catching me sneaking in at this time.
