Chapter 9 (FINALLY!!)

I've been training with the team for several months now. Since then, I've only been getting stronger. Batman and I have a strong, trusting relationship. Also I've grown extremely close to the team.

We were all just chilling in the living room of Mount Justice when we're called by Batman to the mission room.

I'm used to just standing in the back half-listening for as I never went on the mission, just sat by the computers incase one of my teammates needed 'backup"- then I'd call in the JL.

But today,

Today was different.

"Robin, I need you to sneak into the building and hack into the mainframe. From there you should be able to shut down all of the security cameras and traps. Then-"

"Wait... I'm going on the mission?" I cut of Batman with slight enthusiasm.
"Do you wish not to?"

"Of course not sir. Proceed." I've gotten ever so slightly cocky with Batman. Our bond has just gotten that close. I almost look up to him as a dad... but that would be weird.

"Back to what I was saying... Then Robin I need you to signal the team to move in. You will then explore the building. Look for any clues of what Joker may be up to. If you see Joker you are to LEAVE. Joker is far too dangerous for you guys to handle. Especially since we're not sure what he is up to."

I don't think I've ever been so excited to go on a mission before. Probably because all my old missions were usually murder/robbery crimes.
After we all changed out of our civvies we all headed to the Bio-Ship. I held myself back from skipping from excitement.

Once we arrived at the beatdown wearhouse, I knew what I had to do. Meg lowered the Bio-Ship, and I leaped out. I snuck in the fence through a small hole. I ran up to the building and used my grappling gun to sneak through a broken window. Once inside the building I took a look around. There were creepy smiles and "HAHA"s written all over the walls. In blood, it looks like. I looked a wrist computer and pulled up the map Batman sent us. The main computer was on the first floor and I was currently on the third.

I knew I'd be a sitting duck just wandering the halls so I looked for a way to sneak downstairs. To my luck I found a vent on the ceiling just down the hall. I used to crawl through those all the time on missions for Slade. The thought of doing it again made me feel slightly sick, but I knew this time it was for good. I carefully walked down to the other end of the hall where i quickly jumped into the vent. From there I crawled my way to the security surveillance room. There were two guards sitting by the computers. I threw two batarangs and knocked them out cold. I jumped down and proceeded to cut all the alarms.

"Robin to team" I half whispered into my com. "I've disarmed all the alarms, but keep alert there are guards in the building."

"Copy that. We're moving in now." Aqualad's voice rung in my ear.

I decided since I was on the first floor I would just search here.

Upon roaming around I found nothing sketchy. Just some out-of-date machines. I was about ready to give up and head upstairs until I heard a sinister laugh from a few feet behind me.

"HAHA Birdboy is that you??? Long time no see!!! HAHA"

How did I get so lucky... I quickly whipped out my eskrima sticks and turned around getting in my fighting stance. I knew Batman told us not to fight Joker, but there's really nothing I can do now...

"Oh put your weapons away silly boy, I come to do no harm... I was simply sent here by an old friend to give you a message."

"I didn't know you had many friends." I said with a cheeky grin.

"Ouch. I'll have you know im quite the catch. Now, I think this belong to you." He said as he slipped an envelope out from his coat. He held it out to me.

I was hesitant to reach up and grab the note, but my curiousity got the best of me. The Joker smiled.

"Don't worry it's not laced with some posionous gas. If it were up to me it would!! HAHA"

I glarred at him and took a couple steps back starring at the envelope in my hand.

"If i were you Birdboy i'd take that to go, this place is about the blow!! HAHA! I love a good rhyme!!"

My eyes widened as Joker threw a large bullet like object at me as he ran. I starred down at the object.

Bright red numbers were starring back at me.

25... 24... 23

I sprinted towards the stairwell trying to find my teammates while screaming to my com, "ROBIN TO TEAM! ROBIN TO TEAM! ABORT! THERE'S A BOMB! EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET OUT!"

I heard voices and footsteps as i reached the second floor. There I saw Aqualad and Superboy heading towards the windows getting ready to escape.

I heard Aqualad scream my name. "Robin what are you doing!! You need to get out of here! Everyone is already outside!"

I felt relief rush over me as i quickly followed them out the window.

We got about 15 feet away from the building until it exploded. The explosion sent us all flying forward but luckily everyone was okay.

"Ouch man that really hurt..." Kidflash said standing up, rubbing his head.

"Oh, you're such a baby." Artemis said dusting herself off.

I silently chuckled to myself standing up. They fight like a married couple sometimes.

We all headed back to the Bio-Ship which Meg called over with her mind. For the record, I find that to be the COOLEST thing ever.

On our way home I kept thinking about the letter. "Should I tell Batman about it? Who's it from? Is it dangerous? Why was Joker the messenger man?"
My thoughts kept me busy the whole ride home.

Once we got home I decided to just deal with it myself. If its harmful I don't want to hurt somebody else.
I walked into my room and shut the door. I took off my mask and sat on my bed. I stared at the envelop in my hand. It looked seemingly harmless so i decided to open it up. In it was a letter.

"Dick,
        So, you think you're a big bad hero now. Its almost cute. We both know that you are a villain at heart. Why kid yourself? I'll make you a promise. I'll give you 30 days to keep playing hero with your "friends". Then I expect you to come home to me. After that I will come get you myself, and you will have to pay for your actions."

My heart dropped and my face paled.

Yikes i FINALLY updated. i know you probably all hate me for the looooong time since i last updated but i promise there will be more updates this summer!! i was horrible to you guys this school year and i'm so sorry!
