Mandy’s POV

I saw him tense a little bit before relaxing his shoulder. He didn’t speak he only stared at me.i didn’t blame his for having no words to spill out. I let out a small cough before finishing.

“I know what you’re thinking but-“

“Was it a dead body?” he cut me off with his intense stare.

“Of course not, god no” I said in disbelief, it might of sounded like I was talking about a dead body but I would be in far worse situations if that was the case. Justin let out a breath and gestured he hand for me to continue.

“What happened then?”  He asked. I let out a shaky breather and began fidgeting with my fingers in my lap. It’s a nervous habit.

“It wasn’t a dead boy, when the police came to the house I was frozen. I didn’t even know how I would begin the explain any of that,” I swung my legs around the rock so they were hanging off the side and stared at the lake in front of us. I hear Justin shift beside me and sit the same position I was in.

“When they got there I tried to tell them about what happed but they just wouldn’t buy it. I told them about the noise upstairs and while four of them tried to put out the fire the other three sprinted up the stairs.”  I began to shake while thinking about that very moment.

---==---

“Miss we’re going to have to ask you to step outside” one of the firefighters directed me onto the foot path outside the house. My eyes remained focused at the bottom of the stairs as the flair from the fire slowly began to dim. I wrapped my arms around my body.

“How much trouble am I in?” I asked him before he could walk away. I doubt they were just going to let me go, I know they didn’t believe the story about me and Andrew. They think it’s all me.

He threw his hands up towards the house and let them drop by his side.

“What do you think?” he said bitterly and began to walk back inside the house where the fire was almost completely gone. I felt my eyes brim up with tears as I clung onto myself tighter.

“We have a kid up here!” one of the men shouted upstairs as the rest of them bolted up the stairs.

A kid? No...

I run up to the stairs that lead to the house and hurried inside just as the rest of them got up the stairs.

“What happened? What’s going on?” I asked the man who tagged along at the end.

“There’s a kid up there, and you really need to stay outside” he warned before going up the steps two at a time. I began to feel dizzy. I placed my hand on my chest as my eyes scanned over the now damaged property.

Why did I say yes to Andrew?

Why did I let this happen?

This is entirely my fault.

“Move!” a fireman grabbed me by the shoulder and steered me outside, which was a good thing because I didn’t think I could feel my legs.

“Keep the door way clear!” another man shouted. I looked over his shoulder to see all of them hurrying down the stairs and the last one carrying a limp body in his arms.

limp body. I stood frozen as they came closer; I tried to get a good look at the boy’s face.

It was a boy.
