a/n: hello lol sorry i like forgot about this book for like 3 months but I'm backkkk <333

I woke up with a bang as my alarm clock sounded the ever so annoying, "BEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP."

I made my way to my costume and threw myself in it. Looking in the mirror, I praised my attempts to recreate the Corspe Bride's costume. Since I didn't have much to work with, I just tossed together a white flowy skater dress and white shoes and a blue flower crown. I even curled my hair and pinned it back. Nobody will be able to tell who I am but you get it.

I took my daily walk in the brisk morning air. You'd think after walking every morning i'd be more awake and alert in class but i'm still the most zoned out and tired person there. I really just listen to music on the way to school, anyways, so I don't assume i'd be anymore awake than I normally would listening to music falling asleep.

I purposefully arrived to school 10 minutes late so I could skip the crowds of airhead students in weird ass costume, but mostly to avoid seeing the coke heads in their slut costumes.

I made my way to the back of my first period class, ecstatically propping myself into my desk next to Tate. I flipped my hair behind my shoulder and looked up, motioning for Tate to guess who I was.

He smiled with his piercing dimples. "The Corpse Bride. I love it,  Avery."

I laughed. "Why thank you." I looked up at Tate. He wasn't wearing any costume, unless you call his usual striped shirt and jeans paired with messy hair a "costume". I cocked my head, "And you are...?"

He shook his head, smiling at the floor. "Nah, I don't believe in Halloween. I mean I love it and all but what's the point of dressing up when you're already the monster they fear without any costume." Tate said, in deep thought.

I nodded slowly and looked down at my wooden desk, distractingly tracing the little patterns of the wood. I looked back up. "You're not a monster, Tate. You're far from it." I said although I can't say I believed myself. I needed to find Tate's file in my dad's office. Tate was so mysterious and I needed to find out more, but I knew it wasn't going to be from him.
