Chapter 10: Conflict, Conflict, & More Conflict
Louis stood at the stove, cooking dinner on Monday night. Today had been another stressful day. The boys were acting fine, that wasn’t the problem today. The problem was Liam. Yes, he had come home early from his work trip but that really hadn’t made things better. Last night, Sunday Night, Liam had expected to come home and have sex with Louis. They hadn’t in a while and Liam thought that Louis wanted to. Louis had been exhausted and just wanted to sleep. Liam had gotten mad and went to sleep on the couch.
When Louis woke up this morning, Liam was pretty cold to him. He only mumbled a simple ‘love you’ before giving Louis a kiss on the cheek and leaving. Zayn had taken note of it and he noticed how down Louis looked. He chose to just drop it, knowing it wasn’t really his place to come between Louis and Liam’s relationship.
The morning had gone on like usual. Louis picked up Harry from school, fed the boys, and put them down for a nap. Louis had then gone and laid in his bed, wanting to take a nap of his own. His phone had vibrated with a text from Liam. The text said that Liam had gotten an email from Zayn’s history teacher, stating that Zayn had failed the last test. Louis replied that they would talk to Zayn later, and that was that. Louis then started crying, being so fed up with everything.
When Zayn came home from school, he noticed how down Louis had seemed. He was going to ask Louis if he was okay when Liam walked through the door. Liam gave Zayn a stern look, causing Zayn’s gaze to fall on his homework that sat in front of him.
That brought them to now, Louis making dinner while Zayn set the table. Harry and Niall were in the living room with Liam, while Liam sat there blankly. Zayn set the final plate on the table and he looked over to Louis, chewing on his lip nervously. It was so obvious that something was wrong, and Zayn hated seeing Louis upset.
“Lou?” Zayn asked gently. Louis looked up at Zayn, giving him a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“What’s up, love?” Louis responded, going back to making the salad for dinner.
“Are you okay?” Zayn wondered. Louis froze a bit, looking at the salad blankly. He then looked up to Zayn, tears in his eyes. Zayn frowned and Louis sniffled, putting on a smile.
“Don’t worry about me, I’m fine Zayn.” Louis told the teenage boy who didn’t believe him one bit.
“Are you sure? ‘Cause-“ Zayn started, but Louis interrupted him.
“Why don’t you tell Liam and the boys that dinner will be ready any minute?” Louis cut him off. Zayn sighed and nodded, walking to the living room. Zayn relayed the message before going back to the kitchen. He grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge before closing the door and walking over to Louis. He leaned forward and kissed Louis’ cheek, patting his back gently before sitting at the kitchen table. Louis’ eyes started to water again but he quickly composed himself as Liam and the boys walked in.
He served everyone food before getting some for himself. They all fell into a somewhat awkward silence. Even Harry, who was usually very talkative at dinner, didn’t mutter a word. The only sound being made was that of silverware against plates and the occasional cough.
“So Zayn, want to explain to me why you failed your history test?” Liam cleared his throat, staring intensely at Zayn. Zayn froze and kept his gaze on his food. He felt so small under Liam’s harsh stare. Louis set his silverware down, looking at Liam in shock. Liam knew that they were to have this conversation privately, not at the fucking dinner table.
“Are you serious right now? I told you not to bring this up.” Louis snapped and Liam raised his eyebrow at his husband.
“I just want to know. Because I have my own speculation as to why he failed.” Liam said calmly. Louis was absolutely fuming. How dare Liam bring this up now and act like he was the perfect student? Zayn on the other hand, stayed quiet, avoiding eye contact with everyone.
