"Cooper, get up!"
I slowly sit up. "What's wrong?" I groggily ask Alex who's sliding on shoes. I glance at the clock. 3:40 a.m.
"Just put on shoes, hurry," Alex says, looking as if she's about to cry. I quickly climb outta bed and lace up my converses. Alex grabs all our stuff and walks outta the dorm room, frantically typing on her phone.
We get in the elevator. The lights are wayy too bright and hurt my eyes. I manage to look over at Alex though, as tears start streaming down her face.
"Alex, what's wrong?"
She shakes her head, wiping her eyes as we exit the elevator. She quickly walks to the car and throws all our stuff in the back, trying to get into the driver's seat.
"No, Alex, I'm driving, you can't."
"No, no, I got it."
"No, you don't, just get in the passanger's seat."
She wipes her eyes again and walks to the passenger's side, getting in. "Where are we going?" I yawn.
"Saint Andrew's Hospital," she sniffs.
I look over at her. "Alex, tell me what fucking happened right now."
"Gram. She's..she won't wake up," she says as more tears stream down her face.
"..shit, I'm so sorry."
She tries to smile, but fails miserably. "Not your fault," she sighs, running her fingers through her hair.
"Who told you?"
"Griffin called me earlier," she sniffs.
"..you should've been at home, hanging out with her like you planned, I am so sorry for taking you away from her and-"
"Cooper, shh. This is not your fault."
"..I hope she's ok," I say.
"..so do I."

"Where is she?" Alex asks Griffin, who stands, pacing the floor.
"In the room with mom and dad. The nurses said only two people could be in right now."
"That's fucking shit, I'm going back," Alex says, dropping her hoodie on the floor and sliding her hands in to her sweatpants pockets, walking to the back.
I pick up her hoodie and hold it in my hands. "..what happened?" I ask Griffin.
"I was up late. Just..watching tv. Gram usually stays up late with me, we like to watch old Boomerang cartoons together most nights. But she didn't..stay up with me tonight. I figured she'd just be in her room knitting or something, so I went up to get her so we could watch cartoons together. I knocked on the door..it didn't open. I unlocked it, turned on the light and found her laying on the bed so I lightly tapped her. She didn't wake up. I tapped harder..but she still didn't..so I shoke her and then I got my parents and called Alex."
"Shit," I sigh, sitting down in a chair. I can't even begin to think about how worried Alex must be.
"..Cooper?"
I look up at Griffin. "Yeah?"
"..what if she's not ok?"
I stand. "Don't think like that."
"I can't help it," he sighs, eyes watering.
"Well, try harder. C'mere," I say, opening my arms for him. He wraps his around me as I stroke his back lightly. "It'll be ok," I say.
