Elementalia: The Two Sides

Chapter 04 - To where my Fate leads me

Year 5023, Saturday March 22, 23: 59 hours.
The night has hovered above the hidden valley like a nocturnal veil that altered the nature of the valley itself. The crystals that glowed with such power began to wane until it became so dim that they barely managed to illuminate their surroundings. As if they were stars in the ceiling of the immense cavern, the crystals allow the darkness to take control of the flora and the fauna bringing out the wonders that were kept hidden. While many plants were obscured by the darkness, others began to emit their own light creating beautiful night scenes while the diurnal animals returned to their homes allowing the nocturnes to leave to show their beautiful and resplendent attractions. The night in the valley represented the time for the inner light of each being to be displayed as it should be, but it was not all beauty since the light between the darkness can be a double-edged sword. Stalkers hunted their radiant prey in the shadows, many of these deadly creatures were not seen during the day but it was during the nights when they began to go out in search of their next victims. This meant that night in the valley was dangerous. People were locked inside their homes outside the city walls, only within the walls could walk quietly, without fear of being attacked by a night stalker. Equally, we never had to lower our guard since there were always cases of attacks even in the Upper District. If anything we learned is that it is best to always keep the light close or stay in the safety of the home.

Niro and the others have fallen into a heavy sleep caused by their exhausting day full of surprises. The seconds pass slower and slower as we approach twelve o'clock at night. Time knows what was about to begin and as if to prolong that moment when the four were together, at seconds for the new day, the time finally stopped at the last second. The four of them slept pleasantly, they did not know that their days of peace would soon be over. They did not suspect it since everything seemed to be just an ordinary night.

Time finally allowed that last second to pass and the instant the wooden clock struck twelve, a small light emerged in the shadows beneath Niro's bed. This light flew directly at him and when it made contact with his foot, it began to cover him from the tips of his fingers, extending through his skin to the tips of his hair. His whole body was completely covered by this strange light that lifted him slowly from over his bed. Increasingly bright and warm, the light began to cover everything while the Prince was still trapped in his deep sleep. However, the intensity of the same light managed to awaken a certain person whose link with him was the deepest. Luna woke up confused and dazzled by the light, feeling worried as soon as she recognized her beloved in the middle of that brightness that surrounded him, she tried to jump to take his hand while calling him desperate for his name. Gino and Igna woke up suddenly when they heard their friend and feeling shocked by what they saw, they also tried to take him feeling that something was not right, that they should not allow what happened to happen. However, Niro disappeared in an instant between the light leaving no trace other than the feeling of loss and despair deeply rooted in the hearts of his most beloved ones, his inseparable companions and his true family. Silence covered everything in that second when the Prince disappeared completely before any of his companions were able to save him. All three remained silent, shocked and disconsolate. They could not believe that he had disappeared and now they were not able to understand what had happened, the doubts eaten them while the tears began to spill. Silence was broken at the moment when Luna broke into tears, emitting a cry of frustration and despair that echoed through the forest, causing the animals to panic.

Meanwhile, in a place that no one knows, a dark space without any light where darkness completely rules, the young Prince finally appears. The light emerges in an instantaneous flash making it appear and falls on a solid and cold ground before disappearing and leaving him in the middle of the darkness. He wakes up suddenly, feeling lost and confused. He is no longer in the place he was supposed to be, there is no one beside him, only the cold darkness that surrounded him. Standing slowly, he tries to recover his notion of time since everything seems strange to him, as if time had stopped but not at the same time.
