Just like I had thought Alice had called for the groceries. She even told me that Misty was a vegetarian which was amusing even if it wasn't in the same pretenses. Before Alice hung up she mentioned that I should make vegetarian braised yee mee noodles for Misty tonight. The moment I got off the phone I headed into the kitchen and began preparing the meal.

As I was adding in the vegetables to the noodles I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I already knew it was Misty since she was the only person other then myself in the home. I could hear her footsteps coming up behind me and I briefly ingnored them so I could finish the dish.

In another minute the dinner was finished and I flipped it onto a plate and turned around to set it on the counter. I then placed a fork on the plate and allowed my focus to be taken else where which was to the young woman that stood before me.

"How are you settling in Misty." I asked her.

She sat down on a stool at the counter and picked up the fork before she began poking at her food.

"Are you not hungry Misty?" I asked her.

She prodded at it again before she looked up at me. "Is there any meat in this?" She asked me.

I shook my head. "My family is vegetarian." I told her.

She then lifted the fork to her mouth and took a bite. After she chewed slowly for a minute she swallowed and then looked back up at me. "Where is your family?" she asked before bringing her fork back up to her mouth.

"They live in Washington, but I have a few extended family members that live in Denali." I responded as I moved to sit beside her. "I came here by myself."

"Why?" She asked me before taking another bite.

I thought about that. How would I explain to her that my wife I had been married to for several centuries was murdered by ravenous blood sucking demons.

"My... fiance" I began. "She died a few months ago, she was mauled by a bear." My breathing picked back up as I tried to not loose control. Every time I thought of Rosalie's death I wanted to destroy everything around me. "I couldn't stand being there around my family, they were all in love and had their own thing going and I didn't want my mourning to disrupt that."

Everything was silent for a several seconds before I realized it was too quiet. I moved my gaze from the counter top to look at Misty who had set down her fork and was wringing her hands together. I could hear the quickened beat of her heart and the labor in her breath that suggested she was trying to hold back tears. Why was she crying?

"Misty...." I began.

She looked up at me. "Call me Koti." She murmered before she turned her head away and wiped her eyes.

"Koti?" I questioned.

She nodded her head. "My father called me that. I haven't gone by my first name since I was born."

I looked at her clearly for several moments before I nodded my head. "Well then Koti tomorrow I have class at about 9 in the morning so we can carpool if you like. If you need any clothes I am sure you can find something you like in the closet in the bedroom." I said before I rose to my feet. "If you need anything at all or are hungry just help yourself." I added before I headed downstairs to the basement that I made into my room.

I didn't do anything but stare at the wall half the night before I couldn't take it anymore. I rose to my feet and went outside before I ran and dove into the water below. I needed to calm myself down. I needed to be able to think without feeling the pain that I knew I would never be able to forget. I was so angry at myself for allowing Rosalie to hunt on her own, I should have been there. I was supposed to protect her and I failed.
