Her dying wish

3 weeks had passed since the the pregnancy had been confirmed through Carlisle's observation with her blood. During those three weeks Kota had continued to sleep. Only when she was in severe pain did she awake. Several hours her moans and cries filled the room. Bella and Renesmee had returned to Forks but Edward stayed. He thought it would be best if he could make sure that the fetus was happy and got what it needed or wanted.

The fetus was well along so that it now had a mind. Edward was fascinated at the level of intelligence that dwelled in the young being and spent many hours disecting it. It took Edward three days to confirm that there was indeed two babies growing inside her stomach. When Kota found out she couldn't had been more excited. She said we were the lucky ones.

Carlisle came into the room with one of the final 10 packs of blood and changed her IV before he sat down at the foot of the bed. "It should be time, within the next day or two. A standard cesarean will be done to prevent any unneeded pain." Carlisle took her hands. "In less than 36 hours you will be a mother."

Kota smiled before looking to me. "I told you I could do it Em." she said proudly.

"I never doubted you, I only feared of losing you." I whispered back to her before kissing her.

"What should we name them?" She asked. "I like Mia and Matthew for a girl and boy."

Edward walked in from outside and sat in a chair across the room. "What if it's two boys?" he said as he sat back into the chair.

Suddenly a image of two boys, one with brown hair and one with blonde appeared. Both had blue eyes that changed colors like their mother. "Ethan and Matthew" I said to myself.

"That beautiful." Kota said. "But if its two girls I like Mia and Emma."

I didn't really care about choosing the names, that was what I wanted Kota to do. All I was worried about was her and our children making it through this. I wanted to be able to hold them both in my arms.

Another thought of me and Kota filled my mind. Kota had her golden eyes just like mine. We stood in the meadow I had proposed to her in watching our children chasing butterflies.

I was quickly pulled from my daydream by Kota's screams. My eyes widened as her stomach seemed to be moving unnaturally. Carlisle and Edward were at her side in an instant. Carlisle began cutting away her shirt before using a scalple to start the c-section.

My mind was frozen in shock as everything began happening too fast. The only thing I could make out was my wifes screams and the newly added sound of shreading as Carlisle began using his teeth to tear at the placenta which was almost as strong as diamonds.

In another ten seconds I blinked and took a deep breath as I heard a cry. "It's a boy" Carlisle said as he handed Edward a bundled baby.

Edward passed him to me and I just stared at the face that was my son. My son, my flesh and blood. Seconds later another cry was heard from amongst my wives screams and I heard Carlisle say it was a girl. Edward set her in my arms and I carefully moved them to the double basinet that sat in the room. Once I had laid the babies down I returned to the side of my wife who was awake, attentive and asking to see her babies.

"Emmett" She gasped. "How are they?"

I brought her hand up to my cheek and held it there. "They are beautiful, we have a son and a daughter. The girl has your hair and the boy has mine." I said to her as I looked into her eyes.

I looked over to Carlisle who was prepping for the injection of the venom and smiled. "You are going to go to sleep now, just for a little while. When you wake up I will be right here I promise." I said before I kissed each one of her five fingers.

She moaned gently before her eyes seemed to loll a bit. For a second she was silent before she looked up at me. "Promise me you will protect them" she spoke to me.

I looked at her a bit confused at what she was asking me. Of course I would protect them, they are my children. Suddenly a long beep was heard and I looked at the heart monitor to see a flat line. I then quickly looked back to my wife and saw the life leaving her eyes. I could hear no heart beat or detect her raspy breath.

"Kota?" I murmered.

"Emmett, step back please." Carlisle said before he stabbed the large needle into the middle of her chest.

I watched Edward and Carlisle going along her arms and legs adding extra shots of my venom to what I knew to be her major arteries and veins. I remembered Edward talking about doing this to Bella except by biting her. I stood back and did the only thing that I could do, watch, as the woman I vowed my soul and heart to was laying there lifeless before me.

"It's not working" I heard Edward say to Carlisle.

That was it, those were the the words that I was afraid of hearing. I felt my heart breaking all over again, my last chance at love had died with my wife Kota. The first set of words that came to my mind was 'Promise me you will protect them'. That was the final words my wife spoke to me before she died.

I looked over towards the bassinet where the heart beats were detectable and smiled. Even though my wife wasn't here I still had a part of her, two parts really. I had a son and a daughter. I moved over to stand beside the basinett and looked down. Just like Nessie they grew unnaturally quickly. They were my hybrid babies. The short time that they had been alive they seemed to have aged a month or two in the course of the 45 minutes that they have lived.

My son, I had a son. We had planned on naming him Matthew but because of the recent events I decided to name him after his mother. Her name was legally Misty but she went by Kota so it only seemed fitting to name him Dakota Emmett Cullen. Dakota seemed to take after me with his hair but he had his mothers eyes. My daughter who we originally planned to name Mia was now Emma,a feminie version of Emmett. My daughters name was Emma Kota Cullen. Emma looked like her mother with her blonde hair but had my blue eyes. Unlike her brothers they didn't shift between grey, green and blue, they stayed at blue. The only thing that was off about her eyes was the specks of purple here and there.

Emma and Dakota. I vowed to protect them, it was the last thing my wife, there mother, asked of me. Her dying wish. I would do everything possible to protect them, I would die for them.

I gently kissed my children. "Your mother loves you." I whispered to them as they slept. "She loved you so much she died for you rather then saving her own life and living without you."

I sat with my children in silence for several minutes before something disturbed my silence. I couldn't exactly put a finger on it but the sound was familiar. Somewhere in the room was a sound that reminded me of the humming sound that comes from a hummingbird as it flies. I turned my head aroudn trying to understand where it was coming from, what was it. Suddenly my eyes widened as I was in complete disbelief. I knew that sound but was it real?
