When I woke up the sun was shining brightly through my curtains and when I looked at the clock it said 9 o’clock. “I must have been really tired to fall asleep this early” I thought to myself. I decided to get up and just as I did there was a knock at my door.
“Yes, come in” I said sitting up.
“Good morning honey” Elvis smiled as he strode in dressed and ready for the day.
“Good morning Elvis, how did you sleep?” I smiled.
“Not good, but I don’t ever sleep well, how about you?” he replied.
“Apparently I slept good because I never wake up this late” I kind of laughed and so did Elvis.
“Well then get dressed and we’ll go down stairs to get some breakfast” he smiled as he left shutting the door. I jumped out of bed and put on my favorite dress and did my
Hair and make-up like how I always do them. When I was done I walked outside the room Elvis was leaned up against the wall waiting for me.
“Ready, you look beautiful Carolyn” Elvis said charmingly.
“Thank you, yes I am ready lets go get some food I starved” I smiled as I head down the stairs Elvis right behind me. We walked into the kitchen where breakfast was being cooked and Gladys and Vernon were sitting next to each other at the kitchen table.
“Good morning” both Gladys and Vernon said smiling at us.
“Good morning” we said as we walked over to the table and sat down.
“I love see you two together again it takes me back to Mississippi” Gladys smiled. We smiled at her then at each other.
“speaking of Mississippi the other day when I was packing my clothes to come guess what I found in my closet…Elvis’s jacket he gave me the day you guys left” I said.
“I remember that was his favorite jacket and he gave it to you so you would never forget him” Gladys smiled.
“Ya I remember he spent time with me up until the time you left and even then we hid in the shed behind my house where we always hid and we both hoped you wouldn’t find us.” I smiled
“I also remember we hid whenever we thought we were in trouble” Elvis chuckled.
“When we found you guys you both were giggling in the shed and when we asked you why? you replied ‘because we were hoping you wouldn’t find us then you wouldn’t have to leave” Vernon chuckled and we did too.
“Both of your faces were so sad looking between us and each other. You guys were holdin hands so tight we could see your little knuckles turn white” Gladys replied smiling. That’s when Elvis grabs my hand and held it under the table, his hands were really warm and his skin is so soft, nobody said anything bout me and Elvis holdin hands we just continued down memory lane enjoying each other’s company.
“Hey honey I want you to come with me I have something to show you” Elvis replied when had all gone silent after talkin bout our memories. I got up and followed Elvis still holding his hand. As we left I looked back and Gladys was whispering to Vernon my guess it was something about us holding hands. We walked out to the backyard and sat down on the back porch swing.
“So honey whatcha want for your birthday tomorrow” Elvis asked as he sat next to me on the bench swing.
“Oh Elvis I don’t need anything, I couldn’t ask for anything better than being her with you and your parents at Graceland” I replied smiling.
“I do kind of wish my parents were here though to celebrate with us” I continued looking sad and rested my head on Elvis shoulder he stayed quiet but kissed the top of my head. In that moment there was an awkward silence so Elvis sort of changed the subject.
