The next morning I went to school like I always do, but instead of going home like I normally do after school I went to the airport. When I got there the ticket to Memphis, TN was there waiting for me to pick it up just like Elvis said it would be. After picking up my ticket, going through security and finding the gate where I would get on the plane, I called the number Elvis gave me.
“Hello is Elvis Presley there?” I asked after following the operator’s instructions to use the payphone.
“Hello, no he stepped out, may I take a message” the lady answered.
“Yes please, this is Carolyn a friend of Elvis. He invited me up to Graceland for a visit and I would like to let him know I’m on my way” I said politely.
“Ok thank you, I will let him know darling, have a safe trip” she replied.
“Thank you so much” I hung up and found a seat in the terminal. Finally they called for all passengers to board the plane. When I was finally settled on the plane I started reminiscing about Elvis and I as children. I had no Idea what to expect when seeing him again I wanted so badly for it to be like it was before he moved, but people change as they grow up and in his case he got famous. The plane ride was about three hours long and I couldn’t wait for the plane to land, I was so excited. I have never been out of Mississippi before, so this was an exciting new experience for me. My excitement was building and I could barely contain myself. When I got off the plane I scanned the airport for a chauffeur with a sign that had my name on it that Elvis said would be waiting for me when I got off the plane. Finally I spot my name.
“Hello sir” I said to the nice looking older man holding the sign.
“Hello you must be Mrs. Carolyn Mr. Presley has talked a lot about you. Let me take your bags. Are you ready to go to Graceland?” he greeted with a smile.
“Yes sir, that’s me, thank you for taking me to Graceland I can’t wait to see Elvis” I smiled.
“No problem, so how do you know Mr. Presley?”
“Yes Elvis and I go way back”
“How was your flight?”
“my flight was good thank you for asking.”
“Is this your first time to Memphis?” he asked as we walked to the limo.
“This is my first time anywhere I have never been out of Mississippi which is where I live” I said as I got in the limo. The chauffeur put my bags in the trunk and got in himself.
“Ready?” he asked looking at me in the rearview mirror.
“Yes, so do you work for Elvis exclusive or through a limo company?” I asked trying to make conversation as we started on the route that took us to Graceland.
“Only for today Mrs. Carolyn” he replied.
“Is Graceland far from the Airport?”
“No Mrs., Not too far” as we drove we continued to make small talk. Finally we arrived at Graceland I got really excited. As we pulled up the driveway my heart started to race with excitement.
“Oh my gosh! Graceland is so beautiful” I said as we pulled through the gates. They are shaped like a book of sheet music, with green colored musical notes, and a silhouette of Elvis up to the house.
“Yep, were here Mrs.” He said as he parked in front of Graceland. The Chauffeur then opened my door for me, so I could get out.
“Thank you so much sir for driving me here” I said as he handed me my bags.
“Just doing my job” he replied as he gave one more goodbye and got in the car and left while I stood in front of Graceland in awe.
