Dear daughter,
It’s a Friday night. The night before winter ball. Which I don’t know if you know, is a dance. I’m tired. I don’t know at the moment how old you are. how much you’ve read this how many times or if you ever do.
But here’s my letter to you
Dear daughter. I might not be able to give you. a room that fits all the furniture you want. Or give you a separate room from siblings. But you have a big comfy bed and a family that loves you and I hope you can accept and understand that people like me and your dad (should he still be here again right now at the age of 16 I am blind to such futures that will become me.) but we are working hard and I hope that you can see that
Dear daughter. I know that right now you think that I do not understand high school but I will try my best to remember what it is like to walk into school and hate it. And I will remember that you may not always love it. there will be tears. And I will help you through them with the best of my ability. But you must know I am awful at remembering things which is why high school was hard for me. But I will try to remember these difficulties and take these challenges again head on with you. Should it mean you do not face them.
Oh dear daughter,
I love you. No matter what you aspire to be, what the best you can be is, and what you do. My love for you is of the strongest connection. We may scream at each other. my face may darken red my voice will boom but im all bark no bite. Because I love you
Oh dear daughter.
Dear daughter. Find someone who admires you. Whether you like books or if you like parties and I do not know that about you, find someone who will make you, the best you, you are when you are with them. Do not believe skinny girls or curvy girls are better, and do not worry that girls who party are worse then girls who read. Don’t think that short skirts make people think nasty things. Because the word slut and whore mean nothing.
Dear daughter.
Dear daughter please do what you love. should it be teaching, or writing, art or math please find something you love. May your work feel like play. and may you grace the world with the elegance and beautiful entity of you. dear daughter. May you dance with wild eyes and an air in your matter of walking. May you sing loudly and proudly and may your song never be lost in your soul. May it always be playing the song that you know the theme tune of you may you dance on the edge of the earth with the sprits and your soul dear daughter, dear daughter.
Dear daughter.
Do not be afraid of swearing. Do not think that sailor mouths make you unattractive. And do not think eating a lot is either. whoever you are whatever you say is exactly how its supposed to be so do not bite your tongue because that’s how you get blisters, do not make your tongue bleed. Express you’re self. Let go of yourself buy the dress your friends hate but you love or the pants that you think every other would think ugly. Stand out and be who you like because tomorrow or now wherever you be your own opinion is the only one that matters. And I hope that you are happy with it. And with all my heart promise to help you love yourself like Romeo loves Juliet.
And when people force bitter sounds through your ears dear daughter do not listen. Do not preach of what you hate but send out what you love because that is what you will get in return. Although sailors mouths are not unattractive never have an bitter mouth. Do not drink bitterness and spit out hate in such ways. That will not be accepted. Send forth only kindness and be gentle in many ways then just the light touch of the sugar in the sugar tin when the tea is done. Let settle in your mind we are put on this earth for love. And you will do well.
Dear daughter,
You will have many birthdays, and your 16th will be nice but you may not feel older. You will feel 15 just until you almost turn 17 will you remember that this is what it feels like to be 16. You will meet boys at 16 and you will enjoy your birthday with friends. And you will live for many years dear daughter dear daughter.
Dear daughter
At last just understand you are loved you are meant to be here, you have gifts and I will grace you with the knowledge I have. I will hold your hand when things get scary and let go when a cute boy from your chemistry class walks by. I will kiss you on the cheek when you leave for school and whisper I love you when in public. But I will never not say it because I want you to memorize the way I say it so you will always remember how true it is. Dear daughter, you’re a piece of me. And I hope I've done well. And I know that you will
Dear daughter dear daughter.
I love you
