I couldn't believe it had gotten this late. I could see the sun setting in the distance, and it was still about a 20 minute back to my 'base'. I didn't want to be out in the dark, so I started running as fast as I could, towards the direction of base. I pulled out my hunting knife just in case any came out before the sun disapeared. While looking out for trees, watching my step, and trying to breath, I swore I saw something to my right. I quickly glanced over, and saw nothing. Thank God. I said to myself. It's only been 2 months since the outbreak occured, and I haven't had enough time to build my strength to be able to keep myself safe. Fighting one with a knife would not end well.

As I looked up I saw the faint glowing of stars, and picked up my pace. Come on, Olivia. Hurry up. I have Cystic Fibrosis, a lung disease, which makes me not so great of a runner. Without my treatments or medicines I knew it was only a small amount of time before I was done for. Running, more like speed walking, along the path to where I saw the faint glow of hot embers. By this time I was dying for a breath and the moon light illuminated everything. Pushing myself forward, I made it to base, dropping down to my knees by the embers, I shifted them with a stick. Come on. Please don't go out on me. Please... I figured out that they couldn't be by light without dying. A very useful tactic to stay alive myself. Tears started streaming down my face as I realized that my light source was now gone. I crawled over to my tent, unzipped the flap, and scooted inside. I got in my sleeping bag which was in the middle of the tent,  and zipped the door back up. Lying flat on my back, I let it all pour out. I cried until my eyes hurt. My family, my friends, my life was gone. I'm all alone.  Please, just one night. Please don't come. I closed my eyes and listened to the quiet, raspy moaning off in the distance.
