Mallory's POV

I'd sworn Sophie to secrecy about my pregnancy. Of course, deep down inside I knew she'd tell Ben. And then, who knows? Perhaps he'll tell Tom.

I find as this baby grows inside of me, my desire for Tom to know the truth also grows. The problem is the ruse that Lee and I have been perpetuating. I mean, no one has come right out and asked Lee if he's the father, and I'm not really sure what his response would be despite his offering to help.

As for Lee and I, we've not said another word about marriage since leaving Mum's. I cannot decide if that's a good or a bad thing. I've tried to put it aside and not dwell on it, as I think not knowing if it's good or bad is more telling on my part than that Lee has not brought it up again.

So that brings us to London fashion week. A year ago, I would have been prepared weeks in advance, and I would have been so excited I would have forgotten to eat or sleep. This year? Well, it seems all I want to do is eat and sleep, and I've done nothing but worry about whether my dress would fit. It seems in the last week or so I've popped, as in I have a small baby bump. It's not something extremely noticeable, I could have just gained a few pounds. But to the expert eye, I suspect they'd know.

I'd chosen something for myself this year that is daring, not in how much skin it shows, but in color choice.

"Are you sure you want to go?" I called from my bedroom as I put on my shoes

"Are you sure you want to go?" I called from my bedroom as I put on my shoes.

"Of course, Lovely. It will be a chance for us to see Ben and Sophie again," he calls back.

As I exit the bedroom, I stop just outside the doorway, looking at Lee who is dashing in a tuxedo I'd helped him pick.

"Mallory... well, you look simply stunning. You're going to be the belle of the ball," he says as he walks to me.

"God, I hope not. After all, I want Emma, Sophie, Ben, and the others I've dressed to outshine me. Do you think it's too much?"

"Not at all, Mallory," he says as he wraps his arms around me. Still, he frowns as he studies me.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't know. There just seems to be something missing," he says. "I know what it is!"

He steps back from me and pulls a small box from his pocket, offering it to me.

My heart lodges in my throat, making me pray that this isn't what I think it is. I open the box slowly as if something may jump out at me. As the box pops open, I see a beautiful pair of ruby earrings.
