I really hope you all are enjoying the story so far
Megan's POV
After agreeing to hang out with Amber for the day, we went back to our sorority house so she could change into something casual. We were in her room when her phone rang. She picked it up hastily while buttoning her jeans. After exchanging a few words over to the person on the other end of the line, she hung up. "Give me five minutes to pack and we'll be good to go" she laughed heartily. "Hey if you wanna wear something other than that then feel free to rummage around my closet" she offered before picking up a duffel bag and stuffing random clothes in it. "Nah I'm good" I refused politely with a smile. "Really? Coz we might come back late in the night and I don't want you to suffer from hypothermia" she reasoned with a shrug. "May I ask where we're going? Coz you're packing and telling me to wear something to protect me from the cold, also you mentioned that we might possibly come back late in the night and my good guess is you tryna kill me girl" I chuckled nervously at her. "Haha lol no actually my cousins' birthday is today and his mom wants me to bring a friend and you seem pretty chill, girl" she laughed, " I didn't wanna bring Alina coz she's the definition of drama, I've always told her that and she knows plus my uncle isn't comfortable with you know...white people but then again he is married to a white woman. So ironic" she rambled while I picked out a long black jeans that got tight when I wore it. Amber tossed me a cute blouse which I thanked her and wore. After a couple of minutes we finally came out of her room and walked downstairs to the foyer. She said a couple of goodbyes to our sorority sisters and I waved at them. We walked out and I saw a stylish sports car parked out front with a guy who looked to be Chinese wiping the rear mirrors. "Thanks Joe for looking after her. Was my brother at home when you left?" She asked while handing the guy a hundred dollar bill.
"You're welcome Amber and yes, Marcus was there packing his things and loading them onto the Escalade" he replied smiling and took the note. He gave the keys to Amber and we both go in. She started the car and threw her duffel bag to the back and sped down the streets waving back at Joe and getting waves from other students sitting in front of their sorority houses.Taylor's POV
"Nice ride cuz" Nick saluted Amber as she skipped towards us with a particular beauty walking slowly behind. "Thanks monkey. How's Harvard?" She smirked and punched him. "I don't want to talk about Harvard or law" he shook his head and handed Amber a beer bottle. I glanced at Megan and she gave a slight smile my way. "Hey everyone this is Megan Wright and she's a Kappa. Megs this is my cousin Nick, Taylors' brother and these are his friends" Amber introduced Megan to everybody standing around before giving me a slight wink. Everyone greeted her, even Nina gave her a smile which was surprising. I mean she literally strangled Megan yesterday night and now she's all calm and nice. Maybe Nina was telling the truth, maybe she had a sudden change of heart. Maybe.
"Taylor? Your father wants to speak to you. He's in his study" Tina, my dads' secretary walked up and stood, waiting for me. I gave Nina a reassuring smile, nodded at Megan and walked towards the house with Tina in tow.
"Do you have any idea what he wants to discuss with me?" I folded my arms and looked at her expectantly. "It's about Melissa" she smiled weakly before averting her gaze. We reached the room and I walked inside to find my dad leaning back on his leather chair doing paperwork. Tina closed the door and pulled up a chair for me. "Sit" he instructed and closed the file he was glancing through while also packing some papers into an envelope. "New evidence surfaced yesterday and I was notified that it wasn't your prints found on the deceased-", "Melissa dad, her name was Melissa" I interrupted, causing him to frown. "Don't you dare give me attitude, smart ass! Your uncle, mother and myself worked our asses off to prove that you were innocent" he slammed the table. "Your mother and I sent you and your brother to the best schools in all the countries that we've been to, now we're back home and you wanted Harvard Law school? Bam! handed to you on a silver platter and what did you do? You screw it all up and for what?!" He yelled and kicked the nearest chair to the floor. "Correction. I worked hard for Harvard okay? That was me, I studied more than any other kid did in high school and got good grades. I was on the honor roll in case you forgot. If you're referring to money well that is your responsibility as a parent. What do you want? You want a medal, old man?" I countered, angry as much as he was. "You get your ungrateful black ass out of my face! Now you can put on that behavior in someone else's house but not under my roof! Tina get her out of my office" he walked towards the window giving his back. "Yeah thanks Tina, I can find my own way" I snapped my arm out of her hold before walking out and slamming it. "Hey! What was all the yelling about? I could hear it all the way from outside, are you okay?" My mom walked down the hall, a questioning look on her face. "I'm leaving. I don't wanna spend another minute here with that man" I pointed towards the room I came out of. My mother pulled me into a tight embrace. "If you can't stay because of him then do it for me and well for your brother because its his birthday" she persuaded. "He's just concerned because of public opinion. You and Nick knows how he is with the legacy thing. We both graduated with PhDs from Harvard Medical and he wants you two to live up to the family name, not necessarily within the medical field but other areas" she massaged my arms and smiled, "But he always makes it hard. He's difficult to talk to, he's always busy, he doesn't make time for family, for us" we both walked back into the huge kitchen. "Well that is for me to worry about and for you to forgive and forget. Now go have fun with your friends, the staff already set up the place in the back and the food will be ready in just a few minutes time" she patted my back. "I see you've brought someone" her eyes twinkled. I chuckled and shook my head slightly, "Mom it's just Nina. You remember her mother, Nikita Krushev? From last years' annual Christmas ball that you and dad threw?" I asked her. "Oh so she's Nikitas' daughter huh?" Recognition dawned on her face. "You two hitting?" She smiled mischievously. "Mom stop. Please don't say that again" I held up a hand. "We used to date back at Wentworth but just for a year. I ended things between us some days ago and now we're just friends" I looked at her. She nodded at me knowingly and shrugged her shoulders. "Alright, now go on. I saw that other girl Amber came in with and she keeps eyeing you. Better go talk to her before someone snatches her" she winked, walking back to the house before I could say anything.
