"thanks for saving my ass back there, avery."
i smile at him as he drives down the street. zach decided to ride with the others because he claimed we were "bullying" him. "of course. he shouldn't have kept trying after you said you had a boyfriend- even if you were lying." he says, his sunglassed eyes still focused on the road. that's when i feel butterfly's erupt in my stomach and my cheeks heat up. i quickly turn my face towards the window, looking out at the ocean that we were approaching. "so. why wouldn't you give him your number, anyways?" he asks me, looking my way for a second before focusing back on the road. "i don't know, he just didn't interest me at all i guess." i say, still not looking at him. out of the corner of my eye, i can see jack nod, understanding what i meant. i take a sip of my sprite, and the car is filled with silence. it's not an awkward silence, it's actually quite comfortable. jack turns on the radio, one of my favorite songs instantly coming on. i nod my head to the beat as i sing along.
"she played the fiddle in an irish band, but she fell in love with an english man. kissed her on the neck and then i took her by the hand and said, 'baby i just want to dance.'"
jack looks at me, smiling. here come the butterflies.

brooklyn and i lay our towels down in the sand, the boys soon doing so as well. "alright, sunscreen." i say looking at the boys, who all give me pathetic looks. "but why." daniel whines, dragging the y. i look at him in the eyes, seriously. "do you want to look like a boiled lobster?" i ask him. all the boys shake their heads furiously, saying no. i nod and grab out three cans of spray on sunscreen, throwing one can to daniel and one to corbyn, for all the boys to share before handing the last can to brooklyn, as she had already stripped out of her cover up clothes and had put them in her beach bag. everyone begins spraying themselves with sunscreen as i strip out of my clothes, putting them in my bag. "hey ro can you get my back?" brooklyn asks me. i nod and quickly spray her back with sunscreen before dousing myself with the spf 50. i turn to face the boys, only to be met with nothing. "c'mon guys!" corbyn yells for us, running into the water with the other boys before running back out screaming. "nah, i think i'm fine. looks cold!" i yell back, laughing before turning around and putting my hat in the beach bag and throwing my hair up into a messy bun instead of a ponytail. i stand back up as i feel two arms wraparound my torso. i turn around to be met by jack. "hey." he says before throwing me over his shoulder and running into the ocean, throwing me down into the water. coldness greets my body as my feet touch the soft sand below the waters surface. "jack robert avery!" i scream at the top of my lungs, shivering- earning a laugh from him and everyone else. i roll my eyes, huff, and stomp away- acting as if i were mad. i angrily walk towards our towels, wrapping mine around my body and watch everyone in the ocean, shivering as jack walks up to me. "oh come on ro, you can't seriously be mad at me." he pouts. i ignore him, looking behind him to watch brook being shoved under the water by daniel. "rose." jack whines, dragging out the o. i huff and look at him, trying my best not to smile. "i'm sorry rose." jack frowns, sticking out his bottom lip. i let out a little laugh, "it's okay. i'm just messing with you. but you owe me froyo now." i smirk at him. he pulls me into a hug, and i just stand there in shock before hugging him back, letting go of my towel as i feel it drop to my feet. "i'm gonna get you back, i hope you know that." i whisper in his ear before separating from the hug and running back into the ocean. butterflies, again.
guys oh my lasagna you all are so cute 😭 i'm always getting notifications of you guys voting and commenting and i love it! i find it amazing how i literally started writing this story like a week ago and it's already getting so much love. also, if ya'll aren't reading "sweetheart" by apathylucas what are you doing with your life. i definitely 10/10 recommend :) love you shak!
