rose;
we walk into the apartment complex hand in hand.
butterflies.
why do i always get butterflies around jack? it's not like i like him or anything.
okay, maybe a little.
or a lot.
okay, i like him a lot. but that's how it's always going to be, he could never like me back. after all, i'm pretty much a nobody. i'm not famous or anything, unlike jack. he could do so much better than me.
"are you okay?" he asks me as we stand in the elevator, just the two of us. i nod, not wanting to say anything. jack stays quiet as another person steps into the elevator and presses their floor number. we were level five, they were level six. this passenger seemed to be in his late fortys or early fifties and looked like a smoker. this guy gives me the creeps. the man shifts his weight onto his left leg, the one towards me, causing me to quickly grip harder on jacks hand. jack looks at me suspiciously, and i motion towards the man with my eyes.
that's when the elevator stopped moving.
we were stuck between the third and fourth floor. my breath hitched, stuck in my throat. i had told jack about my claustrophobia back when we were getting froyo. jack seems to instinctly pull me into a hug, resting his head on mine. i wrap my arms around his torso, since his are already around my shoulders. i was shaking at this point, and my head suddenly feels dizzy. i feel eyes staring at me, and turn my head slightly to see the man staring at my ass, a small smile on his face. jack seems to notice, and whispers a "don't worry." before picking me up and placing me on his opposite side so that he's standing between the man and i. he puts his arm around my waist securely and kisses my forehead.
i guess he's playing the whole "boyfriend" act again.
and we wait there. i'm still shaking, driving myself mad. jack steps forward to press the emergency button on the elevator, since we thought it would have started up again sooner, right as the elevator jerks and begins moving.
