"So what really happened while we were gone Alice? Did he kiss you? Something had to have happened we were gone for almost an hour!" Melissa said smirking.

"I swear nothing happened, not even a peck on the cheek. I don't know we just kind of talked, it was nice." I said hiding a smile.

"Ah come on Alice." she whined.

"Do you know what you need?" I asked her.

She looked puzzled, "No, what?"

"A boyfriend."

She scowled over at me from her seat at shot gun.

"Real funny,"

"Seriously though, then maybe you'd stop bugging me all the time about Woody." I said laughing.

"Listen I've just met him and we're just friends."

"Fine I'll stay out of it," she grumbled unhappily.

"Thank you, but hey if I ever need a wing man," I started. Melissa smiled proudly.

"You know it!"

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, that is until Thursday. I was relieved that work was finally over. I folded my apron up neatly and put it on a table in the back room. Then I locked up, grabbed my bag and jogged out the door. A cool breeze greeted me on my way out and the sun sat low in the sky. Brilliant colors played across the horizon and I had to take a picture. I dug around a bit in my purse before I pulled out my phone. Then I positioned it just perfect and was about to take a shot when it started ringing. It took a second before my caller ID pulled up who was calling, but when it did I nearly dropped my phone. Woody? A part of me wanted to ignore the call completely, but I answered it nonetheless.

"Hello?"

"Hey Alice how are you?"

"I'm great actually how about you?"

"I'm good, do you maybe want to come to dinner with me? You know if you don't have plans already for tomorrow. I had a lot of fun with you last week and thought that maybe I'd like to get to know you better."

"Oh wow, sure that would be great!" I said trying to contain my excitement.

"So does tomorrow work?" he asked.

"Yeah,"

"Where do you want me to pick you up?"

"Well I get off work at 6͵" I started.

"Is it ok if I pick you up then?"

"Sure, I work The Sunshine Cafe. I'll text you the address."

"That sounds great I'll see you then!"

"Alright bye!"

It took me at least a minute fumbling around with my phone to hang up. I sent him a rather quick text with the address and ran. Ran where though? I jumped around the crowded streets avoiding obstacles and dodging people. I feel like running gives you a sense of freedom that not a ton of things can. I love the feeling of adrenaline rushing through my veins while my legs pump and my heart pounds. Even if I can't run for long it still feels amazing. I ran and ran until a familiar appartment complex came into view. I managed to duck under the gate around back without getting caught and quietly made my way through a yard. During the day the grounds are quite beautiful, with green trees and bushes trimmed neatly around winding paths to each building, but at night it was different. A good word to describe it would be sketchy. I ran up a set of stairs and found my way to a door, then I rang the doorbell and stood there anxiously. I bounced from foot to foot putting different amounts of weight on each until I heard the sliding of the latch being undone. With a creak, the large door swung open.

"Alice? What are you doing here? Are you ok?" Melissa asked looking worried.

She pulled me inside and sat me down on the couch.

"I'm fine I'm fine I swear,"

"Did you run here?"

"Yeah," I started.

"Where is your car?"

"Back at the cafe,"

"Ok what was so important that you had to leave your car?" she asked me looking confused.

"Well I got a phone call from Woody and he asked me out to dinner."

Her face lit up "Seriously?"

"Yeah, tomorrow night."

"Ok ok ok tell me everything about it. I'm living vicariously through you you know that?" she laughed.

"So is it a date?" I asked.
