Woody had finished sweeping up the glass and was now wiping up the smudges of blood off of the white tile floor. I sat there quietly watching him, sipping a bit of water every once and a while until he had finished.
"So I'm guessing you're not a huge fan of blood." he said laughing.
"Well no not really, last year I took a nursing class, but had to drop out because I couldn't handle it." I said feeling slightly embarrassed.
"I'd say you did a pretty good job dealing with Dan." he said.
I smiled and found myself pulling at the hole in my jeans.
"Uh, thanks." I felt my face grow warm.
"Do you want to put on a movie or something while we wait? I could make some tea if you'd like." he asked.
"Yeah sure, do you think Dan will mind?"
"No it's ok, they should be back soon."
My phone chirped and I pulled it out of my pocket.
"Dan is being stitched up as we speak." the text read. I replied quickly, "That's great, hope everything goes well"
Woody glanced over from the tea kettle that had began to shriek.
"Are they there yet?" he asked.
I nodded, "He's getting the stitches right now."
He pulled the tea kettle off of the stove and then opened the cupboards to left of him and took out two yellow mugs. Each one was neatly filled to the brim with wisps of steam dancing about playfully. The appartment was a bit chilly and it was nice to have something warming up my clammy hands.
I followed him back into the living room and took a seat on the couch that faced the television.
Woody had turned television on and it lightly droned on as background noise.
"What do you want to watch?" he asked pulling open the door of the cabinet that held the movies. I skimmed over the titles, most of them I was familiar with, the rest not so much.
"Hmm, maybe something scary? I love a good horror movie."
"What's your favorite?" he asked.
"That's a good question," I said thinking it over. "I guess I like The Ring, but mostly because it has an actual story line."
He laughed, "Well I'll see if Dan has it. I remember watching it over here a while ago, but I'm not sure if he owned it or not and to be honest I didn't watch the whole thing."
He dug through the cabinet and finally pulled it out with a look of triumph.
"Ah now here we are." he said carefully putting the disc into the DVD player.
"Was that your first gig last night?" he asked.
"Yeah, pretty much, I mean we've played for birthday parties and small groups of people. The most we've played for was probably a group of 15." I said laughing. He smiled and nodded.
"That's how it's like at first really, you just need to get your name out there. Well actually your band might need a name before you can get it out there huh?" he laughed taking a seat on the couch next to me.
"Maybe we'll just keep Dan the Smith." I said laughing again. "Is Woody your real name?" I asked.
"No, not really it might as well be though. My name is Chris."
"Hmm, Chris," I said trying it out.
"Chris Wood," he finished, "now what about your full name?"
"It's Alice Rey Knight."
He nodded thoughtfully, "That's pretty, I like it."
"I suppose I like it too, didn't have much choice in the matter now did I?" I asked laughing. It felt a lot easier to talk to him than it was last night. Melissa would be so proud I thought smiling. It had gotten dark outside which made watching the movie ten times scarier even though I had seen it more than once. It had been years since I had seen it and I couldn't quite remember the beginning. The girl had just left the kitchen to turn off the tv that she'd already turned off twice, when there was a knock at the door. It was so sudden that I nearly jumped out of my seat. Unfortunately for me Woody saw and started laughing so hard that he couldn't even answer the door. He paused it still giggling as I opened the door to let Dan, Will and Melissa in.
"Did they get you all fixed up?" Woody asked Dan.
"Yeah we had to go to a freaking hand surgeon though. Do you want to see?"
I shook my head and squeezed my eyes shut as he pulled the bandage down to show Woody.
"Nice battle wound scar that'll be." he said with a low whistle.
"What are you guys watching?" Dan asked.
"The Ring, it was Alice's choice." Woody replied as I sat down next to him.
"Glad you two were able to make yourselves comfortable." Dan smirked.
"Would you guys like me to make you some popcorn?" he asked half joking. Will took his seat in his corned of the room laughing, "Go ahead Dan, but someone better go in there with him to make sure he doesn't break anything again."
"I'm running out of gas I don't think we'd make it up to the hospital in time." Melissa said grinning.
"Ha ha ha very funny." Dan said scowling as he made his way back to the kitchen. Melissa took a seat on the other side of the couch next to me, forcing me to scoot closer to Woody. It was a small couch and clearly it was only meant for two people.
"Could you move over just a bit Alice? I want to put my feet up." she whispered loudly. I nodded and sat a bit closer to Woody.
"Just a little more?"
"There's no room!" I whispered back almost as loud.
"Make room!" she said shoving me into Woody. Melissa had always been stronger than me and this time I guess she miscalculated.
"Oh!" I exclaimed as I fell into Woody's lap.
"What the crap Melissa!"
Woody smiled down at me, "Hello there."
"I, uh, hi sorry," I stammered looking into his eyes.
"How's the view from down there Alice?" Will asked laughing. My face flushed as I sat back up. Luckily we were able to finish the movie without anymore accidents with Dan or shoving from Melissa. When the movie was over we thanked them and left.
