Modern Au, they're 18.
----"Aaaant," Dec says in a sing-song voice from outside his bedroom. "I've got an early birthday surprise for you!"
Ant tossed the sports magazine onto the floor and sat on the edge of Dec's bed. He is keeping Dec company while his parents were away for the weekend. That meant they had the house all to themselves.
If what he's thinking is right, tonight is gonna be great night.
He's gonna get lucky. They can finally make love tonight.
"Whatcha got for me?" Ant asks as he licks his lips.
"You'll find out soon, but you gotta close your eyes first."
Ant did as he was told. "Okay, they're closed."
He waited in anticipation. His mind was racing, thinking of what the surprise could be. Maybe he's wearing something sexy...or nothing at all?
He liked that idea.
Ant heard Dec stop in front of him.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now."
What met his eyes was not what he expected.
Dec wasn't wearing something sexy. He wasn't naked either.
No, the surprise was a box of chocolate cupcakes.
"Surprise! I got you your favorite!"
Ant took the box and tried to muster up a smile. "Wow...thanks, Decky."
Dec frowned. "You sound disappointed, Ant. Do you not like it?"
He appreciates the gesture. He really does. He's just disappointed.
But to be clear, he's not disappointed that he didn't get what he wanted. No, not at all. Ant appreciates almost everything Dec gives him because it's from him. From his sweet, caring Declan.
The only thing Ant doesn't appreciate as much is this: the chocolate cupcakes. He hates them. He doesn't exactly know what about it he dislikes. He just knows he's not a fan of them.
Dec doesn't know that though. If he had, he'd stopped giving Ant these.
Ant has been too chicken to tell him he didn't like the sweet treat. He didn't want to disappoint his equally sweet -if not, sweeter- boyfriend. Dec seems to really enjoy giving it to him.
But Ant doesn't think he can bring himself to eat another bite of these cupcakes. This is his chance to come clean about his hatred of the chocolatey dessert.
"Do you want me to be honest?"
Dec nodded.
Ant put the box on the bedside table. "I don't like chocolate cupcakes, Decky." He made sure to add his pet name for Dec to try to soften the blow.
"But Ant, I thought you loved them!"
"Yeaaaaah...I don't even like them, let alone love them."
"But you told me you loved them. Don't you remember?"
Flashback
It was the first day of Year One when they met. It was break time to be precise.
Ant was waiting in line to buy a sweet snack. He had his mind set on buying one of those beautiful looking chocolate chip cookies.
That was until the boy in front of him turned around.
"Hi, I'm Decky. What's your name?" He asked beaming.
Ant froze. He thought the boy's smile was really beautiful. Even more beautiful than a chocolate chip cookie.
Decky tilted his head, concerned by Ant's lack of response. "Are you okay?"
Ant shook himself out of his thoughts. "Yeah, I'm okay."
A smile returned on his face. "Hi, Okay. I'm Decky," he giggled at his own joke.
Ant giggled along.
Their little moment was then interrupted by the lady selling the baked treats.
"What would you like, sonny?" She asked Decky.
"Chocolate cupcake, please."
"10p, hun."
Decky paid up and got his treat. It was now Ant's turn.
"How about you, hun?"
He eyed the cookie, then the cupcake, then Decky.
"Cupcake, please." He handed over his payment and joined Decky.
"Wow, you got a cupcake, too!"
"Yeah, I love chocolate cupcakes!"
"Me, too!" Decky exclaimed. "I think I'm gonna like you, mate!"
Ant smiled.
His plan of impressing Decky worked.
"You're telling me that you only said you loved chocolate cupcakes in hopes that I would like you?"
"Yeah, it worked, didn't it?"
"It did, but how come you didn't tell me before that you didn't like them. I could've stopped giving them to you."
"Yeah, I know, but you looked so happy whenever you think you're making ME happy. And I love seeing that. It makes having to eat cupackes worth it."
Dec cupped both Ant's cheeks and planted a kiss on his forehead. "You're a silly goose, aren't ya? You could've told me and I would've just found another way to make you happy, Ant."
Dec let go of Ant and put his hands on his hips. "So tell me McPartlin, what can I do to make you happy?"
Ant pulled on Dec so that he fell onto his lap. "You being you makes me happy, Decky. That's all you have to do," he said before he kisses him lovingly on the lips.
Dec is all he needs to be happy.
