Lord Dalgliesh bowed to each of us and when my eyes met his, I saw something in them something that I couldn't decipher but one thing is for certain, it wasn't something you would see in a normal man. My eyes narrowed at him and when he noticed a flash of curiosity sparked in his steel blue eyes.

"Is something the matter Miss Linton?" My eyes narrowed a fraction of a millimeter but, I didn't reply, well at least vocally, instead I shook my head a bit.

"Are you sure?" His voice sounded concerned and his face held a puzzled look. Suddenly, my dear aunt butted in, almost literally! If I thought my behind was fa-

No generous, it is generous not the f word! Her dérriere is the very definition of the f word though.

"Don't mind her my lord, she is very ill-mannered and uncouth. There is no need for you to concern yourself with her my lord." Why she...

"Thanks so much for bloody complimenting me. Truly! I am very flattered that you know me so well." My voice was dripping with sarcasm and dear aunt wasn't what you would call a happy camper.

"Young lady! Mind you language and learn some respect, you are in the presence of honorable gentlemen!" Oh boy I'm gonna get it when I get home.

Then maybe you shouldn't just stand around thinking about it!

I turned to his Lordship and curtsied "I apologize my Lord for my rudeness, will you please forgive me?" My voice resembled Maria's when she was trying to get a man's attention and quite frankly, I hated it. When I looked up toward the wealthy man I saw amusement in his eyes.

"Oh, it is alright Miss Linton, and I must say that you are quite an interesting young lady." He gave a friendly smile. The comment was questionable since it could go two ways, good or bad but, for the sake of making my aunt forget my sarcastic shout I acted like a well behaved young lady.

I giggled and replied as chipper as a bird "Why thank you my lord and you are a very interesting individual yourself." Thank the Lord for my acting skills.

Although the man is interesting, oh and by the way, our dear siblings Anne and Maria are glaring daggers at you from the side.

For some reason, having the chance to anger them is pretty fun especially with beloved aunt Branks smiling at me like I was a wealthy bachelor that had an interest in one of her nieces.

"Lord Dalgliesh, would you care to dance a reel with me?" I knew for certain that everyone around me was shocked. Normally unless the two are very aquainted or the lady is of high power, the man asks the lady, not the other way around.
You could almost literally hear my aunt's jaw drop to the floor. This is much more fun than I expected.

His Lordship's smile widened "Yes,  I'd be honored to dance with you." He sounded sincere and Maria's face from what I could see was beet red in anger - My smile instantly widened.

"Miss Linton" Lord Dalgliesh held his hand out for me to take which I took gracefully (as gracefully as I could). His hand was soft and smooth, as if he never hand to do manual labor.

We walked forward and many gasps and muttering followed. He bowed to me and I curtsied to him right before the music started. His dancing was that of a natural, it surprised me a bit but not completely.

"Why did you ask me to dance with you Miss Linton?" How to answer that truthfully?

Why don't you just tell him?

Point made.

"To piss off my sisters" I answered and he laughed an ear - pleasing laugh.

"You truly are an interesting woman Miss Linton." I didn't say anything in return to that comment but there was a question that I wished to ask.

"Earlier, Sir Philip said welcome back to London, why did he say that?" His smile widened but also hardened.

"I was out of the country doing business." Being the nosy person I am I asked:

"Where did you go and what business were you doing?"

"I don't believe that a young lady such as yourself should bother herself with it." He said it firm but polite.

He's hiding something...

"What are you hiding?" I blurted out without thinking.

Bloody hell! Nice going Lilly you really need to learn when in the bloody hell you should keep your mouth shut!

"Why would I have any reason to hide anything if I may ask?" His voice had a threat in it, barely noticeable but, there. To most it would seem like he was asking a simple question but I on the other hand...

"You just seem to skip around questions, that's all." Except for the fact I really question your expressions and tones of voice! Same goes for your demeanor!

"I see well, Miss Linton, I believe that you shouldn't concern yourself with my matters, after all, you are a young lady and this business isn't one you would like to know about."

You chauvinistic bastard! I may be a woman but that doesn't mean I can't handle knowing about one's business!

"You don't know that for sure, I truly am curious, besides would it kill anyone if I were to know?" Somehow I managed to restrain myself from throwing at him a whole book of expletives.

He didn't respond but his eyes narrowed and his smile because much less harmless than before. Suddenly, the doors to the ball room busted open and in walked who I knew would come, Mr Rikkard Ambrose but, what surprised me was that their was a beautiful lady on his arm.
