As a medic working for Overwatch, it was your job helping the heroes recover from the wounds, sometimes fatal, sometimes not, they received on the battlefield.

You had finished your turn and were already fantasizing about spending the rest of the day in your house when someone opened the door of your treatment room. You turned to see who it was and jumped when you noticed it was none other than Commander Reyes himself. You let out a gasp of surprise when you noticed the dirty bandage wrapped around his left arm.

"Sorry to keep you here late, doc. Angela is taking care of the others." he groaned as he made his way to one of the hospital beds in the room. You lowered your eyes, understanding that Blackwatch's mission mustn't have ended too well.

"It's fine, I'm glad you all made it back.", you said, showing off a bittersweet smile,"Please, take off your shirt so I can treat that wound properly.". You turned the other way, giving him some privacy, and took some sterilized bandages from a cabinet.

When you turned back, the man had taken his shirt off. You made your way to him, slightly flustered by the view, and analyzed the wound. "This doesn't look good..." you commented, as you traced it gently with your fingers. Gabriel gave you a deep nod. "Gunshot wound. The bullet's already out, though." he explained.

You disinfected the wound without any problem and were able to suture it perfectly. Lastly, you wrapped it with the sterilized bandages you had taken before. "You're all good now." you added, a faint smile on your lips. "As efficient as ever, (y/n)." Reyes said, putting his shirt back on. You washed your hands and sat next to him.

"So," you began speaking, "Who did you take a bullet for?" you asked. He looked at you, shocked by your accurate guess. "How did you-" he mumbled, making you giggle. "Call it a woman's intuition." you replied with a wink.

Reyes chuckled and gave you a slow clap. "Bravo, (y/n). I did it for that stupid, wanna-be cowboy known as Jesse McCree. Can't believe that idiot tried to take out five men all by himself." he groaned. "I'm sure he won't try anything like that for a while." you commented.

Gabe nodded and closed his eyes. He let out yet another sigh, a useless attempt to let his fatigue out. You kept your eyes fixed on your shoes, wondering about what to say to make him feel better. "Commander Reyes?" you called him out. He opened his eyes and turned to you. "There must be a lot going on your mind right now..." you said, still looking down but turning hesitantly towards him, "I've got this feeling that you will be blamed for Blackwatch's failure, so I wanted to remind you how good of a Commander you are. People seem to forget that, besides Captain Morrison, there's another man who gets this place running correctly."

You could see the man faintly smiling as he heard your kind words. "You flatter me, (y/n). But I appreciate your consideration of me." he said, making your heartbeat hasten. You only gave him a flustered smile in response.

"I should go and see how the others are doing." Reyes added, getting up from the bed. You nodded and walked him to the door. He had opened it and was ready to go away when he turned to you one last time. "We should talk more, (y/n)." he said, his chestnut eyes fixed on you. "You know where to find me, Gabe." you blurted out as your face got warmer. "Noted." the man replied, smirking at you before leaving the room.

You slowly closed the door, a bit confused by the smile Reyes had just shown you.

Then you realized it. You had called him "Gabe". Not Reyes or Gabriel, Gabe. You had called Blackwatch's Commander and Overwatch second in command by a shortened version of his name -- and if he had smirked at you, it meant he probably didn't mind it that much.

Your knees gave out and you sat on the ground, covering your blushing face and stupid smile with your hands.

You surely were looking forward to "Gabe's" next visit.
