Jack hesitantly walked over, wanting to hug Nate, but knowing that Moss could be watching their every move, ready to strike. He sat down on the bench opposite Nate's. They nodded to one another, tears filling their eyes. So close, and yet so far.
Nathan finally spoke. "I brought you something." He took out a ham and cheese bagel from the inside of his jacket and tossed it over to Jack.
"Thanks, I brought you something too," Jack replied. He unzipped his backpack and pulled out a chicken roll. "It was hot, but now it's not. I'm sorry." He rolled the roll across the ground, it landing at Nate's feet. He picked it up and hugged it.
"It's perfect just the way it is. Thank you."
The two sat there for a moment or two, in a comfortable silence, Jack eating his bagel, Nate hugging his chicken roll.
"Thanks for coming. I didn't think anybody would, honestly," Nate stated sadly.
"It's The Shed Lads, I'm always gonna do my best to be there for you guys."
"Do you think he's watching us?"
"Moss? Maybe. Or else he has Vasil doing his dirty work. You know how Vasil says he won't watch out for Moss, but he ends up doing it anyways. That's probably the case here too. But how are we supposed to plan our next move if they're listening in on our conversation?"
"I have that sorted. I contacted Aoife and Kathlynn, and at exactly 4:20, any minute now, they're gonna ring Moss and Vas. We know they won't be able to resist picking up their phones to talk to them."
"Nate, you're a feckin' genius!"
"We won't have long though, so we'll have to plan this quickly!" Nate looked at his phone, it read 4:21. "Okay, let's do this."
"Heheheh okay!"
"Right!"
"NATE? What's your plan?"
"Eh, let's hear yours first!"
"I don't have one!"
"Neither do I!"
"Nate, I take it back, you're not a feckin' genius, you're a feckin' eejit! I thought you had some sort of idea for a plan at least!"
"Wait! Let's think.....Well, we have to break Erika out of jail right? I assume you saw the news. Maybe we could dress up as Gardaí....no that's stupid!"
"It is. You're too majestic to be a Garda."
"We could pose as anti-meme campaigners, and tell the Gardaí that we want to do a presentation to the inmates about the dangers of memes!"
"Oh that idea might actually work yeah!"
"I have a friend on the inside who can help us too."
"Who?"
"It's-
But before Nate could finish, Stephen ran out of the shadows and stopped in between Nathan and Jack, a frightened look upon his face.
"STEPHEN?! Who would've thought you'd show up! You look like you've seen a ghost" Jack laughed quietly, but nervously.
Stephen stayed silent, but observed his surroundings. He looked from Jack to Nathan to Jack again. They could tell he had something to say, but couldn't say it.
"Spit it out!" Nathan shouted.
"Were you listening to our conversation? You're working for Moss aren't you! You're his spy!" Jack said angrily.
But before Stephen could reply, a giant bag of cans fell from the sky and crushed him.
".....Oh the baba...." Jack and Nate whispered in unison.
"LADS." A giant voice boomed from the heavens. "It is I, Vasil The Mighty, and I am here to make a deal with you. You can keep this giant bag of cans, IF Jack returns to Canada immediately, and you both forget about what just happened."
"How can we forget about what just happened if we keep the bag of cans?" Nate asked.
"THAT'S the first thing you ask him? What about....how is his voice coming from the sky? Why did he call himself Vasil The Mighty? How did he carry and drop the huge bag of cans from the sky? Why did he kill Stephen?"
"ENOUGH!" Vasil shouted, before appearing from the clouds. He was flying.
"You can fucking fly?"
"Yes, I have many powers, but I am not as powerful as....Moss The Powerful."
"Why are you talking like an evil villain from a movie?"
"Because....I AM an evil villain from a movie!....uh, book....uh story....YES!"
"Well you're not scary. Now, are you gonna answer our questions?"
"NEVER! For I am unbreakable!"
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning hit Vasil. He crashed to the ground, breaking his leg instantly.
"This is deja vu." Jack said.
Vasil screamed in pain. "Whoever did that to me will pay!"
Jack and Nathan looked at each other, confused. They wanted to help their old friend, but knew Moss would show up soon, and that was dangerous.
"Vas, we're really sorry but we're gonna go now. Maybe you can answer our questions another time yeah boi?" Nate said.
"You're not going anywhere!" Vasil spit, his eyes bulging. He crawled over to Nate and yanked his chicken roll from his hands. "Good luck getting this back," he laughed, throwing it across the park. It landed in a tall tree.
"NOOOOOOO! You bastard!" Nathan screamed, slapping Vasil in the face.
"Nate, the roll is gone. That tree is too high for me or you to climb. Let's go." Jack stated.
"I will climb it. I WILL CLIMB THE TREE." Nate charged towards the tree, ripping his shirt off and tying a bandana around his head.
The rest was a blur. It happened so fast. One minute Nate is on the ground. The next, he's sitting on the tallest branch in the tree, the chicken roll safe in his arms once again.
Jack's jaw dropped. He ran over to the tree, Nate already on the ground.
"Let's go break Erika out of jail."
