In Canada, Jack was outside playing in the snow....wearing nothing but a pair of his favourite Union Jack underpants and listening to 'Three Little Birds' by Bob Marley. 'twas freezing, but he didn't feel the cold. In fact, he hadn't really felt anything since The Shed Lads went their separate ways.
"Jack, come inside!" Emma shouted, startling him.
"I don't want to!" He cried.
"There's something on the TV.....you gotta see it....I cant explain it..."
"Ah in a minute!"
"JACK!"
"EMMA!"
"THE FLOOR IS LAVA!" She screamed, and without a second thought he bombed it into the house, throwing himself onto the couch.
"That got you inside!" she smiled, closing the door and sitting down beside him.
"So what was it you wanted to show me?" Jack asked.
"This," she pointed the remote at the TV and pressed play. It was a news report about Youghal. About the 2 hooded figures terrorizing locals.
"You used to live there right?" Emma asked him.
"Yeah....I did. This type of stuff is happening all over the world though."
"Watch this part..."
Jack couldn't believe what he was seeing. It was Erika and Paula. On the screen. Being arrested by the Gardai. They were the hooded figures wearing the masks. He started to laugh.
"Why are you laughing?" Emma asked, shocked.
"In the Shed Lads, we said Erika would be the first of us to go to jail. We were right."
"That's beyond the point Jack, the point is, your former friend is a Memer. She could be put on death row!"
"You're right....shit! I have to do something!"
"Like what?"
Jack sat there for a few moments, thinking up a plan, thinking about his old friends, thinking about melted cheese....he shuddered at that thought and shook his head. Concentrate....
"Hold on a second a minute. This is a no-brainer. I have to go back to Ireland, back to Youghal!"
Suddenly, as if by fate, The Shed Lads group chat dinged. "TheMajesticGod sent a message." Jack's jaw dropped as he opened it.
"Lads, I think it's time we have a meet up. It's been too long. If any of ye want to help keep this chat alive, come to the park in Cork, the one where we had the shits and giggles back in March. Come to the park this Saturday at 1."
Jack booked the next flight to Cork with some money he had saved from the cancelled trip he and Moss were supposed to take to L.A. His plane ride was a blur, apart from the nightmares about Londonderry, and No Frills, and melted cheese.
His plane landed and he decided to visit some friends and family. He arrived at his house. It seemed empty. Inside was dark and cold. Not a soul in sight. Not a sound to be heard. But....wait. There was a sound. It was faint but it was there. Coming from upstairs. Jack tiptoed slowly up the creaky stairs, breathing heavily. He couldn't quite figure out what the sound was as it became louder, closer, with each step he took. It was a sort of buzzing, humming sound. A light could be seen shining from under one of the bedroom doors. That was where the sound was coming from. Jack gulped and pushed the door open with all his strength. Two shadows sat in the corner of the room beside a lantern. They turned to look at him.
"Jack! Look at our new fidget spinners!" Caoilainn and Kellie smiled widely.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH" Jack screamed, waking himself up. It was another nightmare. The worst of them all. He felt relieved at the same time though. At least it wasn't real.
He fell asleep once more, but this time Barack Olamba visited his dreams. It was nice. Hehe.
In Cork, for reals this time, Jack wandered the streets in despair. Cars were on fire, graffiti covered every building, people were shouting and rioting, police sirens echoed in the distance. The Memepocalypse had begun.
Jack started to walk a bit faster, knowing he wasn't completely safe out here. He walked faster. Faster. Faster.
Out of nowhere, a small Indian child jumped out infront of him. "STOP! Good God man, you almost got the cheese touch!" The child pointed towards the area where Jack stood, and just centimetres away from his foot was a square of melted mouldy cheese. He scooted away from it.
"Thanks kid" Jack sighed in relief, but the boy had disappeared. Mak stood there for a minute, trying to come to terms with what just happened. Eventually he started walking again, fast, but keeping his eyes on where he was stepping from then on........
"Moss spent 3 hours in there, the pleb" Jack thought as he passed by the library, which was now almost unrecognizable. But, everything came to a standstill as he approached the park. His heart raced in his chest. He turned the corner, and sitting on a bench just across the way was a handsome young man with beautiful flowing locks.
