Chapter Eleven:

[Harry]

Focusing on work the next day was practically unbearable; the only thought running through my mind was that I made a mistake. How could I really trust Nicole? Honestly, I hardly even know her.

"Harry, are you doing alright?" Ralph waves a hand in my face before letting out a sigh.

After blinking briefly, I nod and continue shelving records. "I just don't feel like myself today."

"You haven't taken a break since early this morning, why don't you have an hour lunch?" Ralph suggests as the front door dings.

I glance over my shoulder and see Nicole in the doorway, a pink blush across her cheeks as she spots me. In her hand was a plain brown bag and once she approached me, she held it out.

"I brought you a Philly Cheesesteak from down the street. I don't know if you've already eaten, but they were really good and I wanted you to try one." She explains quietly.

I smile as I stand up and dust off my hand on my jeans. "You really didn't have to bring lunch, but thanks."

"I know I didn't, but I wanted to. That's what some couples do, I figured I could try it out." She laughs, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

I briefly kiss her cheek and take the bag from her as Ralph approaches me again. "Who's this, Harry?"

"Ralph, this is my girlfriend Nicole. Nicole, this is my boss and friend, Ralph." I introduce the two and grin as Nicole nervously shakes his hand.

They chat for a little while before Nicole leaves and I sit behind the counter to eat my sandwich. As I eat the cheesesteak, I text Nicole and agree with her statement of it being incredible when Ralph strolls up in front of the counter.

"So, how long have you two been going out?" Ralph asks casually.

I wipe my mouth with a napkin before replying, "just about a month. It's nothing extremely serious; I actually don't know if I'll even continue the relationship."

Ralph furrows his eyebrows at me, with a confused look on his older features. "Why not? She seems absolutely lovely."

I sigh and briefly explain what happened the other night and where my feelings are with Elli in the picture. Through the story, Ralph nods and hums along, listening to what I was saying.

"I understand where you're coming from, Harry, but she doesn't seem like the type to party often. I'd believe her when she says it won't happen again; she brought you lunch and was even nervous to just meet me. She really seems to like you, Harry.

"Maybe you just need to get to know her a little better; ask her about her family, her past, get to know her for who she is." He explains.

"I'll do that, thanks for the advice." I say as I clean off the counter space where I ate and text Nicole to see if we could hang out soon, and I hoped she'd agree.
