Bearer of Sin

Emotions are like flames, flickering, shrinking, swallowing the world in fiery passion.

"Where has Orcus gone"  Thanatos asks one of his underworld eyes and ears, a dark nymph.

"He has gone to the human realm to seek the woman which the master had protected," the eerily beautiful woman responds with her head bowed.

Rage bubbles to the surface of Thanatos'  mind almost immediately. "Who told him of her?"

"The goddess, Sekhmet,"

"Where is she?"

"By the Cypress tree in the garden, my lord,"

He storms off down the halls of his dark palace, and reaches the garden out back in seconds. There, the goddess of revenge stares up at the tall tree with a plain expression on her face that makes Thanatos wish he would never see it again. Without even blinking he grabs the woman by the neck and pins her up against the tree. His black eyes now glow red with an intense anger that even Sekhmet has never before seen, and fear overcomes every inch of her body and mind.

"Did I not tell you to stay quiet about what happened the other night?" he asks with a deadly tone.

His grip on her neck comes close to suffocating her. "You did!"

"Yet you still had to run off and speak to your beloved Orcus about the incident?"

"I- I didn't think he would do anything at all!"

He moves his face inches from hers and she shakes from head to toe with pure terror of the only person capable of  destroying her life. "Listen well, because I will not repeat myself.  I will have those souls inside you become so enraged that even you will be unable to contain the hatred. It will eat you from the inside out and even then I will do everything possible to ruin you more than you could even imagine possible. And if Orcus has done anything to that woman, then his punishment will be even more severe. As it is now, he will be sent to the bottom of the river Styx for a century and so kindly reminded why it is  that no one is to disobey me. WHERE IS ORCUS?"

I dash over to the houses with people escaping from them, and slice in half the first bird to try and devour a person. The sword vibrates violently and I know that if I do that again, it will snap in two. But in only a matter of seconds every structure in sight has been ignited in flames and everyone is frantically trying to flee the village surrounded by these birds. I have no choice but to listen to the bloodcurdling sound that leaves the mouth of a woman who by now is pinned to the ground by a giant living stone and being viciously drained of her blood. Why would they want blood if not for a prize? Servants need no food.

"My lady... Use me as your sword..." a single servant of my own requests.

"They will all see if I am to do anything effective..." I reply quietly.

That's when I glance over my shoulder and spot the family of six all huddled together, the only man carrying a sword and swinging it around wildly to try and swat away the birds. I will never forgive myself if one of them dies here. I don't hesitate to run on swift winds to their aid, but the sword snaps when I chop off the head of the bird and it crumbles to dust. I can't save anyone if I pretend to be human. I draw in energy while shouting at everyone to group together over here, and I can feel my eyes change colour with the energy I obtain. Perhaps red for the fire that burns around me. Just as everyone is rushing over, I allow the willing dragon of mine to become a sword in my hand. A sword which cannot break.
