Vivian was shaking uncontrollably. She wasn't sure if it was from the shock or the rain. She continued to cry hoping this nightmare would end. As she saw the park coming closer, her breath caught in her chest.

"Oh my God," said Kent as he saw Harley sprawled on the ground. They got out of the car and ran over to him. Harley was staring at the sky. His hand was bloody and over the stab wound in his stomach. Kent and Vivian bent down next to him. Vivian saw that there was a stab wound not only in the stomach but also in his shoulder and his arm. He had a gash on his temple that was bleeding down to his eyebrow. Vivian looked at Kent and saw that all the color in his face was gone now.

"Harley?" asked Kent with a hoarse voice.

"How bad is it?" he asked still staring at the sky.

It was now pouring down rain. They were all drenched from the summer storm.

"I'm taking you to the hospital. Grab that arm, Vivian, I'll take this side and you take that one," said Kent.

Harley turned his head towards Vivian

"Did Bruce find you?"

"No," she answered as she wiped her face from the rain and tears.

Vivian grabbed Harley's injured arm and Kent grabbed the other. Kent and Vivian pulled Harley up. Harley grabbed Vivian's hand with his to steady himself as they stood him up. Vivian looked down and saw that her hand was covered in blood from his. They quickly laid Harley down in the backseat.

"Stay back there with him," said Kent as he got in the driver's seat.

Vivian climbed in the backseat and put Harley's head on her lap. Kent sped out of the driveway and started driving toward the hospital. Vivian choked as she tried to calm herself down. Harley looked up at her and saw her wiping her eyes. Vivian looked down at him and put her clean hand on his cheek.

"Hang in there," she whispered.

He watched her silently cry over him. He was amazed how much someone could care about him. Especially a sweet girl that was out of his league. Kent pulled in the hospital and parked the car in front of the emergency room entrance doors. Vivian and Kent pulled Harley out of the car and walked him in the doors.

"We need some help! Now!" yelled Kent.

Harley was immediately put on a collapsible bed and taken into a room. Two doctors ran into the room followed by a few nurses.

"Some paper work needs to be filled out," said a nurse.

Kent took the paper work and they were led to the waiting room. They passed Harley's room and they glanced in. They were placing an oxygen mask on him and putting IVs in his arm. The nurses were running around in the room, doing what they were told by the two doctors. One doctor was applying pressure to a wound while the other was talking to Harley. Vivian and Kent entered the waiting room and sat down. There were only three other people there. Kent rubbed his forehead and started to do as much paperwork as he could. He handed the papers to a nurse at the front desk and sat back down. He looked at Vivian and saw she was staring at the floor.

"Vivian?"

She looked up with blank eyes.

"Do you want me to take you home?"

"I think I'm going to call my parents and say I'm going to be a little late. I'll explain everything to them tomorrow."

She stood up and walked up to the phone. Before she dialed, she realized her hand was still covered in blood. She entered in the bathroom and put her hand under the cold, numbing water. Vivian watched the blood swirl in the clear water. She felt a tightness in her stomach watching Harley's blood go down the drain. She walked back out and dialed the number.

"Hello," answered her mother.

"Hi, Mom. I'm going to be later than I thought."

"Why is that, Vivian?"

"A friend of mine is in the hospital and I went to visit him. I'll be home as soon as I can."

"Alright. Do you need a ride home?"

"No, I'll be fine."

"Okay, Bye."

"Bye."

Vivian hung up the phone and sat down next to Kent.

"What happened tonight?" he asked.

"Bruce and two members of his gang started to follow me. They grabbed me and I managed to get away. I ran to the park where Harley was waiting for me. Harley told me to run. I ran away and stopped when I was hidden in the trees. I looked back and saw them jump Harley. I left to get you when I saw Bruce stab him. It's all my fault. If I wasn't walking in the dark Bruce wouldn't–"

"It's not your fault. Bruce would do something like this."

Vivian clamped her hands together and listened to the tapping of rain hitting the window. An hour later, Kent stopped a nurse and asked if they could see Harley.

"I'm sorry, he's in emergency surgery now. It will be a few hours," she answered with a solemn look.

She bustled back down the hall and Kent slumped over in his chair.

"I better go home," said Vivian as she stood up.

"I'll take you home."

Kent and Vivian walked to his car silently.

"Don't worry about Harley. He's tough. He will pull through," said Kent as he started the ignition.

Vivian wasn't sure if Kent completely believed what he just said. She saw the worry in his eyes.

"Kent, can you pick me up tomorrow morning at eight?" asked Vivian, once they were outside her house.

"Sure. I'll be here."

"Thanks."

She got out of the car and walked in her house. She dragged her feet upstairs and walked in her room. Vivian was still in a daze from what happened. She sat down on her bed and broke into tears. She curled up in bed and continued to cry until she fell asleep.
