We're a mess you and I, but the truth is, you captivate me in ways no soul ever will. –perry poetry
Lucas' POV.
"Hey mate." Ethan said clasping me on the back as he took a seat on the bar stool.
"Good morning to you." I smirked leisurely sipping my coffee as he stared flatly at me.
"I'm getting married." He suddenly announced as I muttered a loud oath as the burning coffee scalded my tongue.
"What?" I questioned as I placed the cup down as realization dawned, "She's pregnant?"
Nodding he ran a frustrated hand through his hair as he absently picked up his mug, "Would you be my best man?" He asked.
"I'm honored." I responded.
"I'm being serious Luke." He stated settling weary eyes onto me.
"So am I." I replied accepting the plate of breakfast that my housekeeper had set down.
"When is the big day?" I asked.
"Soon enough." He replied.
Arching a brow I looked at me as he shrugged continuing on with his food, "Did you tell Nico and Dillon yet?"
"No." He replied, "I will tell them later today."
"A wedding and a baby?" I asked taking in his restless face as my eyes averted to the nearby picture frame. Following his gaze, a wave of nostalgia washed through me.
"Do you think the baby will look like me?" He asked staring at the photo of the four of us taken outside my grandfather's vineyard more than a decade ago.
"Hopefully not." I smirked as he let out a rough laugh, "Do you love her?" I questioned as a thoughtful look crossed his face. His eyes as similar to Evelyn's flashed with pain as lowered his head gazing intently at his breakfast.
"I don't know... I care about her but love..." He replied as an odd smile made its way to his face.
"I always knew you played the part of Romeo for a reason." I remarked as he winced as though suddenly remembering the memory.
"We had a doctor's appointment yesterday." He suddenly said shoving the plate away in frustration, "We had an argument...she's under a lot of stress right now because of me." He confided as pain flashed clearly across his face, "The doctor said her high blood pressure can cause complications..."
"But it won't." I interrupted as he looked on at me hopefully.
Quickly changing the topic, we conversed some more about Evelyn as I drained the remainder of my coffee.
"Thankfully she agreed on the bodyguard, you know how she can get." I heard Ethan comment as her flashing eyes and sarcastic pink mouth came into my line of vision.
"She's definitely something." I remarked thinking back to our conversation the previous night and how much I resisted the urge to pull her into my arms and sample her sweet mouth.
Ignoring the baffled look Ethan threw my way, I stood up shrugging on my suit jacket as he continued to gaze at me in open curiosity.
"Is there something I should know?" He asked.
"About?" I questioned.
Rolling his eyes, he got up as we both exited in silence.
"Take care of her right." He said pausing to look at me in a strange way before entering his vehicle.
